When you are 55 y/o, overseas on a layover, and she says "you so beeg!, I promise to love you long time", chances are she is not interested in your youthful appearance.
Another sure way to guarantee you will never be able to retire is to make it into your late 50's with wife #2 and a 3 year old.

Oh no
I spent nearly 20 years in pursuit of a fulfilling aviation career. I was able to let go in the nick of time and salvage what is left of my life. There is not enough room for everyone at the top. Eventually even you might have to make a similar decision or risk a lifetime of meager to miserable results. There is not a fairytale ending waiting for most. The harder and longer you try the more costly the endeavor becomes. Eventually you reach a break even point and there are few profits left in continuing.
Just ask an Aloha pilot how they feel about their career choice right now. Those guys are hitting the street at a very bad time. Most of them have families and some big financial responsibilities. There are few places they can go to salvage their careers and lives at this point. I know because I have walked in their shoes.
A poem....
My career path was long and very ruff .
Twenty years of fruitless effort and I had had enough.
Save yourself, in time you will see,
or risk declining profits in old age you will be.
