If you are going to use the home business option it has to be a viable business and normally you are expected to show a profit 3 out of 5 years. You also have to file annual reports for the business.

I don't think you can, at least I wouldn't deduct it based on what I read. The airline assigns you a domicile and you choose to live elsewhere. I am contrasting that with a business person who may not have a "domicile", but must spend a given amount of time on the road at his/her own expense (i.e., hotels, meals, etc.) in order to conduct business.

The only exception I can think of is if you are assigned TDY and have no choice but to commute. But even then I would consult a good tax accountant.
