Is crashpad deductible for tax purposes?

Was wondering if anyone knows if crashpad expenses deductible?
Thanks

No you cannot deduct crashpad expenses.

The assumption is that your domicile is your tax home. Commuting expenses from home to work are not deductible. You will hear from pilots that say they have been doing it for years, but that just means that they haven't been caught.

1.) Commuting from home to ALPA/union meetings is deductible

2.) Set up a home office and a small home biz. Sell widgets. Doesn't matter. Now your commute from your place of business to your domicile became deductible too.

3.) Crashpads are not deductible.

I'm no accountant but unless it's a viable business, that seems tough to explain to the IRS "friends". Why not set up the business at your crashpad?

If you set up the business at the crashpad, then you can't deduct going from one place of business to the other place of business the same day. Going from one place of business to another place of business the same day is deductible.

Consult your tax accountant. Don't take the word of anybody on this forum.

So my interpretation is, yes, you can deduct your crashpad expenses.

I agree with pokey, the pad as well as the time you are at the pad on call etc. is deductable by using the per diem rates as listed for that domestic city on this site.
