Default Cost of Living...

ok so, how much do you guys think cost of living will be out in Maryland if I have a $1200/rent a month for a house between two of us (so $600 a piece for rent) plus electical... then what about all the other costs like food, car gas, and all that other stuff you don't really think about... luckily this place has a boatslip, so we can probably rent that out and use it towards our house rent. obviously I'd like to spend as little as possible, so any tips would be splendid.

Who's we? It's cheaper on your(eastern shore) side of the bay. You can find stuff in Annapolis, but $1200 isn't going to go too far. I think reg unleaded was about $2.85 the other day. Aside from housing, other cost of living items are similar to other parts of the U.S.

well I already kind of got a house.. ''we'' is me and the other kid that instructs at the school.... the house is on kent island, stevensville i think, its 2 bedroom ,1.5 bath, garage, has a boatslip, for $1200 + electrical ($600 apiece). im more worried about the costs on top of that, food and stuff... i was hoping to keep my cost of living down really low ($600/month at the most), but im going to end up paying $900/month just to live and it scares me a little. hah

guess imma need to get another part-time job bussing tables or something.. ha

Mc713:

Pay your rent. Shop at Wal-Mart. Buy all off brand products. You'd be surprise as to how much you can save and say...how long $125.00 worth of groceries can last one person. I'm assuming you guys are buying your own food, right?

Trust me. I know what you're up against. Just last year, I was living in Naples, FL and working for Comcast. Although I made good money, the cost of living in Naples is ridiculous. I shopped at Wally World and purchased most if not all Great Value products.

You know...by what you want to eat; but for God sakes don't go to the grocery store hungry . You'll send twice as much . But seriously though, take your time and compare brand names to generic. The only difference is the packaging. You pay more for the brand name in examples like Del Monte, Kelloggs, etc.

on my part, living in a single apartment in daytona beach, i use about 700/m on the rent, about 50 a month for the electricity, 150 or so on food, and 50 or so on the car. with a bit of misc. stuff costing me about 100 more, I average at about 1000-1100 or so I guess. electricity is doubled during the summer when I have to have the AC on 24/7, and it depends on several other factors as well.
If I were to share an apartment with someone that would drop down expenses by about 200 bucks for the apartment, and a bit on the food side, but imo it's not worth it, I like not making compromises
