Airline Pilot: One of the Highest Paying Jobs in the US
#31
Other Salaries
FWIW, here are average starting offers for 2005 college graduates:
Chemical Engineering--$54.3k Computer Science--$51.3k
Accounting--$43.8k Economics/Finance--$42.8k
Liberal Arts--$30.3k
Source: National Assn. of Colleges and Employers
Probably not valid if you do something else (like fly airplanes) for a
while and then apply for one of these jobs.

Police officer jobs and others are about equal to or better than most airline pilot jobs pay in the beginning. Checked multiple department starting salaries, most range from 35-45k and top out at about 80k after putting in 15-20 years. California police make more, starting salaries are around 45-60k, but that is eaten up in living expenses. An airline pilot job quickly catches up with these salaries after a few years, and a senior captain for a major makes well into the six figures, plus he's doing a job infinitely more exciting than being a desk jockey. It is a long road, but I think it pays much more than these jobs could ever hope to in the long run.
