Paying Your Loan?
#51
Thank you sir for awakening a 14 month old thread.
Yep, they write off debt all the time.... and those of us who pay our bills end up paying for their mistakes.
I doubt those bankers lost much more sleep than the folks who bought a 5000 sf house with zero down.
Bankruptcy is for the guy who got hit by a bus, has tons of medical bills, and won't be able to work again for years.
"Why do so many of you feel so morally obligated"
Because some of us believe a contract is a contract. The bank didn't forclose on anyone who PAID their mortgage.
I am infuriated every time I see a post or thread about getting out of a training contract without paying (and it happens every time there is a hiring rush). I understand one may get a better job offer and take it. Fair enough. But YOU signed the contract, YOU need to pay the contract.
Son, a man is only as good as his word. You and others may pull one over on us a-handshake-is-a-contract folks, but in the end, somebody else will sk-rew the H E double toothpicks out of you. When it happens, don't come cryin' to me.

I have considered the bankruptcy option as well. I'm sure anyone with tremendous debt looming over their heads have humored this thought laying awake at night debating how the bills will get paid. I believe that it is my civic responsibility to pay this money back. Bankruptcy is the easy way out.
You should feel morally obligated to pay back your loans. When the decision comes of buying a new Corvette or paying off a student loan, I pay my bills first. It's the right thing to do.
