Default international stock fund or utility fund

I have a international stock fund in my retirement plan that tanked as soon as I put money in it. It has come back up, but it still worth less than what I put in. I also have a utility fund that has lost some, but not as much as the international stock fund. My advisor suggested that I sell all of the utility fund and put it in the global stock fund. I'm not too smart when it comes to this, but if anyone has any input to offer, I'm all ears. From what I know, utilities are good when the market is going down becuse people will always use utilities. But big growth won't usually happen because there are restrictions on prices of utilites. One thing that concerns me is that my advisor keeps reccommending the international stock fund for the last few years. I'm not sure why he is so hot for it when it lost a lot of its value. Any advice is appreciated

What is the asset allocation by region/country of your international fund?

The best advice I can offer is to find a CFP that understands your goals, assets, comfort level, etc. so that they can offer a solution that best fits you.

As for International Funds, they typically have fees that are much higher than domestic funds. Depending on the performance of the fund, it may be negating any gains in fees. Worth checking for sure.

As far as making a suggestion on International vs. Utility, it really depends on the structure of the particular fund as not all sector funds are not created equal.

You sound just as lost as I was. And like you, I noticed there's far too many people giving investment/financial advice that are ill-equipped to give it.
Try these guys Nussbaumer Pearce Capital - Home
A mate of mine who flies for Emirates put me onto them some month ago. Reliable, consistent, quiet achievers.

I use Commonwealth Financial Planners in Niles, Michigan. Mr. Scarpone is a CFP, CVA, CPA and is extremely knowledgable in both weath management and retirement planning. PM me if anyone needs info.

Default Financial Advisor I use

PM me and I'll give you the name and number for the Financial Advisor I use. He and I flew together years ago and he has a detailed understanding of the industry and how to help pilots. I've learned a lot from him and highly recommend talking to him.
