Warning: Progressive Insurance Rate Hike Scam

Warning: Progressive Insurance Rate Hike Scam
Had Progressive for years, no claims, no accidents, always paid on time.
Today they sent me a renewal with a 30% hike in the rates.
Called them up and asked ***...?
First they tried to blame in on general inflation, prices are going up, milk and bread, etc.
Cost of doing business in Florida, etc..
I did not buy it, asked to speak to a supervisor.
The supervisor finally admitted it was due to my credit score going down.
I asked to speak to the "Credit Department" within Progressive.
Got connected and was told yes, my credit has been sliding because no loans are more than 6 years old or some such thing.
Here is the clincher: I have blocked my credit history for many years to prevent identity theft, therefore nobody has access to it without my permission, and then only to obtain a mortgage or refinance, etc.
I told the person in Progressive's "Credit Department" that my credit is blocked and not available to anybody and further told her she has been smoking crack trying to increase the rates based on credit reports she has no access to.
I have a feeling they are commiting fraud and said so in an email to Progressive:
At any rate, got new insurance with 21st Century and @ a lower rate than I paid with Progressive before they tried the BS hike due to my "credit hisotry"
This is just a heads up if anybody else get the 30% increase after years of accident free and ticket free driving...A scam.

Message: I belive somebody within Progressive are trying to scam the
customers by raising rates by 30% overenight based on their "credit
rating"
My credit history is blocked to avoid indentity theft and besides that, my
credit score and history is Excellent, and has always been.
Never been late paying a bill in my life, always paid my Progressive
policy in full and usually 3 to 4 weeks in advance of the due date.
No credit card debt, own severeal properties and boats free and clear.
Never had a car accident or claim, yet my Progressive rate went up by
almost 30% overnight.
I except internal fraud and I am starting an internet campaign warning
other customers and potential customers about progressive and how they
treat their loyal customers:
This is the first one:
A Mercedes bulleting board with 163,000 members, mostly in the US.
http://www.mbworld.org/forums/off-topic/389615-progressive-direct-sucks.html#post4544445
I will also spread the word on other boards and in the meantime I suggest
you guys do an internal investigation to find out what is going on,
something is not right if your best customers are being accused of being
irresponsible and then penalized with huge rate increases.

Thanks for the report. I have used Progressive in the past and would want to know this info. While we are at it, I put through a claim to SafeCo last year following a hail storm and had to literally take it to court to get my claim filled. They started a shuck and jive about how they do not have to honor a dealer repair job, even though my car was new and without it I would have voided the warranty on the paint. Nothing about it was in the contract. Straightforward is not the word for this behavior.

Ditto on USAA
As far as Progressive, are you sure, that in the deluge of paperwork, flyers, emails, and another correspondence, there was not a "if you don't tell us otherwise, we can do what we want" type message? Opting out is quite a feat these days. I'm not singling out Progressive, just business in general.

Guess they tried to pull a fast one and jack up my rates based on nothing.
Here is link to more details and more responses from the MB formum.
(So I won't have to type the same stuff over and over again)

CSY_MON:
I'm sure if you read the fine print, since you have done business with Progressive, they reserve the right to monitor your credit score. It seems a lot of folks are getting upset with the new credit rules in our country ever since our government tried to "fix them".
Anyhow ... you know what they say about Progressive? The discounts are so cheap, even a caveman can do it [image deleted. just google it for a good laugh]

The Geico ads are creative like "a bird in the hand". Good thing they don't offer aviation insurance, that would be "hell in a hand basket".

I was a very loyal USAA member for many years. I really don't like to change companies that I do my banking, investment or insurance business with, but I left them in 2000.
USAA had made a decision to change their membership criteria and after that their customer service went downhill and their rates went up.
Delta has a corporate affinity program with Travelers. I used them for several years without problems. However they kept raising the replacement value of my house (and therefore the premium) beyond reason.
I very recently switched to AMICA. Thus far their customer service has been excellent.
