We just purchased our home/acreage using Amy Stuhr Paterson at NBKC and this was by far the smoothest mortgage process I have ever gone through. Amy's communication of the process was amazing. We encountered zero issues with explaining income from Delta and the loan pre approval was completed in about an hour. Our realtor had issues finding a closing attorney for our timeline and Amy jumped right in and recommended a national title agency/closing agency that she regularly uses. We trusted her judgement and chose the company which resulted in no delays to our closing timeline. Highly recommend Amy and her team at NBKC!!

I’ll add another recommendation for Amy Stuhr Paterson with NBKC. We shopped around while looking for a mortgage and she was by far the kindest and most knowledgeable we encountered. The whole process with her was smooth and as stress free as getting a home loan can be, especially considering the unique nature of our job. Our contract with the builder stated the funds needed to be available by a certain date or we would incur a financial penalty and Amy stepped up and knocked it out of the park to be sure we were 100% ready when the time came.

I can’t recommend her enough, go with Amy and the folks at NBKC!

Since every pilot wants to save a buck I recommend you always shop around for everything when dealing with real estate.

Had a long time client of mine ask for a home insurance agent recommendation today. His current agent was quoting $3K for a new policy and one of the guys I recommended was able to do the same exact coverage for $1.9K. I've seen this type of thing play out in every aspect of a real estate transaction. We try to always get people the best deal on third party items, but that's not the case with every lender out there. A lot of time it's just path of least resistance...general contractors are notorious for this with purchasing, but it applies to home inspections, title work/title insurance, home insurance, real estate agent fees, etc. I'd highly recommend you always shop around for all third party services and don't let a lender or realtor push you in one direction. You should be getting three recommendations for any service you need if you ask a lender or realtor. Beware of the classic referral trick in real estate where people just just recommend their friends who will then refer back to them in return even though the client isn't getting the best deal...it'd make you sick if you knew how common that practice was. No one cares more about your money/family's financial health than yourself.

Default pilot mortgages

Great news! Last week we were successful in getting approval to use first year pay for airline new hires vs training pay which is significantly lower. It happened that the underwriter working a file was an army wife who went above and beyond to speak directly to a high level admin official who was married to an airline pilot. They saved the documentation for future use for Delta Pilots specifically but other airline new hires will also benefit. The documentation is specific to VA loans but we should be able to do the same for conventional borrowers.

This will give you more buying power since training pay isn’t an accurate gauge of what a 1st year airline pilot will make. Training pay shouldn’t limit the house a multi-million $ career airline pilot can afford.

I just closed my first home loan with Marty and his staff over at Trident home loans, and it truly was a great experience. Especially as a first-time home-buyer he was great and answered all my questions. Over the course of the next year while I was searching for a home, he always seemed to be available. Eventually when I picked a home, I started working with Kristina (one of their loan specialists), and she was super great to work with as well.

What was crazy was my realtor told me I should compare with his “go-to” lenders, but first he asked what rate I was going to get with Trident…when I told him 3.75, he laughed and said, well I find that hard to believe but if you can get that you better lock it in right now! Sure enough he checked with his lenders and they couldn’t come anywhere near that number.

Icing on the cake was that they were super on top of underwriting and getting all the required documents, so at no point was I ever worried about hitting my closing date. Basically all the things my realtor was worried about (due to his past experiences with VA loans) were completely taken care of and now he says he will be sending any VA loans he gets over to them.

Long story short, I was really pleased with the experience and am recommending all my military and airline friends to use them!

Mortgages rates have pulled back a little recently and have been pretty stable if anyone is shopping right now. We've been doing 4% (4.25 APR) 30yr fixed VAs and 4.5% (4.625 APR) 30yr fixed conventionals with no points this week for our well qualified folks like you guys. Let me know if you'd like a quick quote. Lots of options for low down payments and lender credits too.

Also really excited for my team...we just won best mortgage company in Pensacola! Not too bad for a couple of airline pilots who own/run a mortgage company

I had the pleasure of sitting down today with Gina Roth, an experienced Denver based Realtor and SWA pilot's wife. We've worked together for three years now but it was our first face to face meeting. I'm happy to report that she's as charming as she is sharp. Having married into the airline world she is a great real estate partner who understands the crazy schedules and requirements of the airline world (including how pay works). She is an excellent resource for any of the new hires and pilots relocating to the DEN base. I highly recommend you give her a call if you are considering moving to the Denver Metro area. Her contact information is: 303-894-8025 or [email protected]
