Netjets or Wholly Owned?
 

Trying to decide between NJ or a wholly owned regional with flow to a legacy, please help and let’s talk about the negative and positives...

What's your end goal? Earning potential, which leads to QOL and retirement, is unmatched at the big airlines.

Smooth is right. What are your career goals? How old are you? Do you have a college degree? Do you live in a city that is an airline base? Do you care if you would have to commute? Are you a flexible sort or do you prefer routine? Are you ex military or civilian trained?

All of these factors, and more, are important to the equation.

Do you want to work day trips? 2 day trips? 3 day trips? Or do you prefer to work 5-8 day trips? Do you want to bid for sim time? Get paid to do CBTs? Do you want to live your life in hotels or got kids/hobbies and like to be home?

The last year at Netjets I spent 173 nights on the road away from family. During the first year with the majors, I spent 58 nights in a hotel.

So I guess the answer is a wholly owned that has a flow to a legacy is pinnacle. I was under the impression that NetJets was a place one can retire at and have a great retirement saved up with a good QOL unfortunately that seems to be not the case.

I agree with the others. Unless there is a specific aspect of corporate/fractional flying that appeals to you (variety of flying, bases..) then getting on a path to a legacy is a sure bet. Better pay, retirement, and stability. Look at it this way, have you ever met a pilot at a major carrier who says "man I can't wait to get out of here and land a good corporate gig."

The fractional are a bit behind in pay and schedules. it's a lot of time away from home.

My goal always was legacies or lucrative fractionals. Do you think pay, QOL, and retirement will ever get better at fractionals? I mean it has to right to retain their pilots...

I’m not sure passing up a job like Netjets is worth waiting the 10+ that WO new hires have until they flow is worth it, especially since the WO have become the lowest paid regional pilots in the industry.

Unless you live in a WO/ American base and plan to stay there long term, you should be considering Endeavor or Republic, or even Skywest depending on where you live if you’re considering the 121 route.

You could always go to a fractional later if you really hate 121 life. If you’re young, go to the airlines and set yourself up for a major airline career ASAP. Take it from a guy who has spent half a career in 135/91 ops.

On the other hand, if you go to a WO, that 10 years could be an Ace in the hole... You could apply to the other Legacies during that time.. If ya get picked up great, if not then atleast there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately there isn't room for everyone in "x" number of years
