a few years ago in my operation, we were begging people to stay and upgrade. a lot of the younger crowd would join as SICs, get their 1500 hours and go to a regional. A lot are trying to come back now...
Another perspective from the fractional world (your operation may vary) is that I'm typed in either seat in our jet, and qualified in either seat of our turboprop. So, on any given cycle I can be in 4 seats on 2 planes. it's rare, but it has happened...fortunately not all on the same day!

I wanted to join netjets before Covid hit. Many months before. Now, they might as well flush my app, because I can’t stick it out anymore in the right seat of an RJ on reduced hours. It’s a sad flippin’ day I gotta tell ya.

If the company wanted to foot the bill to do that, they would. They guaranteed upgrades in the IBB to guarantee yes votes. Good move by the company. Now they gotta shave off a bunch of captains to ever see an organic upgrade. Also add that they wanted to reduce the minimum pilots per plane in fleets slated for disposal. The company wouldn't have asked for it if they didn't think they could utilize it.

Thank you for the responses. I get it now.
captains get paired together on trips. So it makes no difference how many FO’s there are.
The new contract has made it so NetJets won’t need to hire for the foreseeable future. Only for retirements.
People don’t retire from NetJets until they are too old and weak to fasten their seat belts
Totally clear. I won’t be working at NetJets. I got it.

Keep at it and best of luck.
Although you're absolutely correct about the old and weak....saddest part of the entire gig.

For many it’s a complete mystery, but the whole reason I left my previous career and went to the regionals for a 70% pay cut was to qualify to apply at NetJets. It’s where I’ve always wanted to work since I saw the QS on the tails. So, now I’m in the right seat at a regional with a 10 year upgrade and no future. I’ve got a lot of soul searching to do.

In this career, you need a plan A, B, and C. For many, plan A will never work out. I still wouldn’t lose all hope. All places go through hiring and non hiring waves. They will hire again. Hopefully soon. Also, those ten year upgrades will come down. It’s stagnant now, but there still are a ton of retirements at the top 121 ladder. That will have to create movement. If not, the whole airline industry is toast.
