How does upgrade work?
22 year Challenger (CRJ series) Captain/instructor here thinking about making a change. Just curious how the upgrade works at NJ? The profile on this site lists the most junior captain at a 2006 hire, is that right? Seniority based or what? Thanks in advance.

It is seniority based. We had a large hiring gap so it will drop to 2015 hires in the next year or so. If the projected growth happens it will keep getting lower but like all jobs in aviation nothing is guaranteed.

You can select your preferential bids for every fleet and seat from number one to number xyz as many times as you want. If your seniority can hold it you get the bid. Biggest mistake people make is not keeping their preferences current. You may be awarded a bid you really wanted, then forget to upgrade your preferences. Then zap, you get a bid you failed to remove when seat locks are gone or released. Bottom line, all seniority based. No preferential knee pad bid awards.

Purely date of hire. The only ones who jump the list are management or SDP (special duty assignments like IPs). SDP types are limited to 39 months if they couldn’t hold the seat through the normal seniority system. Anyone can list any fleet/seat on their standing bid, and if their seniority can hold it, it’s theirs.
