I spent 10 years in the Excel/ XLS fleet and the vast majority of provided headsets were the Telex 750s. When the XLSs came on property they all had Telex 850s and gradually those either got outright stolen or replaced for whatever reason with 750s. I literally wore earplugs the entire time I was on the ramp or even while flying with the 750s. At least starting pay now (with FDP) is at least twice was I made at the start and you could probably afford to get a new headset rig. Or not. I was adamant (pig headed mostly) that I would not pay for a headset until I upgraded so I had 10+ full years of earplugs and the Telex 750.

NflightMike
I would go with the NFlightMike personally. The pro version to be specific. Similar pricing but way better in my opinion and it has the added bonus of being compatible with any noise cancelling headset. I use mine with a pair of Sony's. Lasts 2 tours if I don't use the headset for music while commuting. Otherwise during a sit on the ground I just charge it up with the company issue batt pack.

I used the QC-15/U-Fly mic rig until I got on the Phenom. I forget the brand mic included on that jet but it was fine and I quit hauling the QC-15 rig around. Of course after 2700 hours on C-130's I'm probably not the best person to ask about noise cancelling......

Hey gang, I’m a new hire going to the Excel. First turbine.
I see in the MEL there are two headsets in the cockpit.
What are they? Do people use them?
I have my dc h10-60’s from 2006 that are still in excellent condition but they are a little heavy and bulky for commuting. Thinking ab springing for the u fly mike harmony and picking up a pair of qc35 series 1’s on a known auction website… seems like a pretty versatile kit.
Does TSO matter anywhere but Europe? Do the 560’s equipped headsets count for that, if TSO is req’d? Do I have to wear the TSO to be legal (or to be NetJets compliant), or just have it onboard? Not sure if UFM can do TSO on the 35s yet, but I want the Bluetooth for travel days. AirPods hurt.
TIA
PS I’m not buying an A20.

Bose ProFlight and a set of earbuds for the airlines, unless you’re one of the people who don’t like earbuds. Having the Bluetooth is a game changer for picking up clearances via phone or calling the company when required.

Anyone ever use Avee? I see they’re about to release their Bluetooth unit, essentially making the QC35 into a full functioning A20 and still way better bang for the buck (as long as it works)

Just looked at the Avee website with BT. $478 for the mic and $330 for the headset. This mix is just as bad as a design as UFM. That means the mic is specific to the headset model. So if you have the mic for the QC45 and your QC 45 quits several years later, then you’d have to buy another headset and mic since the mic won’t fit in the lates Bose model.
I dealt with this at UFM for the Bose QC15, QC25, and QC35. I had to buy a completely different mic each time. I gave on UFM when Bose ended the warranty on the QC 25 and Bose upgraded me to the QC35 for free. The UFM mic did not work for the 35 rendering it useless for flying. That’s when I heard about Nflightmic and have used them ever since.
I’d go with Nflightmic if you’d want to use any of the Bose QC headphones.

I replaced the QC15 with the QC25. The battery door on the QC25 had a defect. I called in for the warranty repair and they said they were no longer supporting the QC25’s. Instead they sent me a free pair of QC35’s to remedy the warranty repair for the QC25’s. That’s 3 separate UFM’s.

I am using the Avee. I use it with a QC35 and like it a lot. I think it is better than the Uflymike. I used a friends Ufly that he was not using for 3 tours, the mike boom constantly had to be repositioned at the rotary connector and induced a “scratchiness” quite a bit. I do not have the BT module but will probably add it. Avee customer service and responsiveness is excellent. Ordered on a Monday, had it Friday via DHL from Norway. Also the controls are up on the module not way down the cable near the dual plug. Avee is also available for the new QC700 and Sony headsets.
