I disagree. I honestly believe the sentiment for a base pay increase is strong enough now that the EB and the membership will not accept just soft pay pay and a bonus. I’m not a fortune-teller, but that’s what my gut (and my ears) tell me.

Why would they raise base pay. They can throw some crumbs (FDP changes or some other garbage that they control) and a signing bonus and that crap will pass. Oh yea. And they will extend the contract. So we will never see a new contract. Rinse and repeat. Our pilot group is selfish and very predictable. The company always comes to us to fix the problems that THEY created and our Union executive board always falls for it.

I’m all for a new contract! But, don’t we have to wait until 2029, at a minimum, if they don’t want to sign an IBB?

In what world do you think a new contract would be signed that does not move the amendable date back from where it currently sits?

Which is the problem. If we do another IBB they will want an extension. So many other things need to be addressed that won’t unless we go into negotiations. The company union have been clear that they don’t ever want that again. I’m happy to see the union President finally put on his big boy pants but let’s see if it’s just talk to scare the company.

This next round has a chance to really crank things up in many areas that haven't been touched before in IBB negotiations with the massive pressure that hiring and retention will provide (on top of a unified and angry union). I do believe there is some risk as we wait for this to build if the economy craters, but the company is now claiming a billion dollar war chest and they already sold somewhere around 100 airplanes for delivery next year. They have to staff them and will have massive pressure to do just that. I'm looking forward to seeing how many newer pilots bolted when the next seniority list pops in a week or so.

There is no doubt that the natives are growing increasingly restless. Given crew food issues, bid award snafus, punitive scheduling, weak hotels, middle seat airlines, disproportionate FDP distribution, a growing salary divide versus other carriers, and thinly veiled retribution from Bridgeway, it’s no wonder morale is sinking faster than a lead canoe.
Worse yet, this management team has recently shown itself to be increasingly petty, arrogant, and vindictive. That’s not a great recipe for a customer service business dependent on its front-line employees to justify a client’s decision to spend thousands or millions more than they would for other aviation options.
In my view, union leadership has been a little slow to the peeved position but recent communications seem to indicate a shift and I welcome it. Could it be recent survey data indicates more discontent than previously thought? We’ll see.
This is going to be a dumpster fire of a holiday season and something has gotta give.

As a group we need to Do Our Jobs. Fly an airworthy airplane, not fly hungry or fatigued and stop extending. This is not a job action. We are just doing our Jobs. And by doing this you will be surprised how fast the company will come to us.
