No they aren't, I know the numbers from the couple of guys from my new hire class that stayed. I was also at NJA for more than a year, but we all know that numbers are hard for you so we will give you a pass, unlike the check airman that had to unsat you.

I will fully admit I do love the idea of going places I have never been, but that is for a hobby, not a profession. For me personally, I will take the same 15 airports. All the hotels are nice, and I never have to worry about some truck stop hotel in the middle of nowhere.

There’s plenty of interesting flying available in the 121 world if one wants to chase that stuff.

The shine of a positive space commute has pretty much rubbed off for me. While it is nice to have a boarding pass and its way better than commuting standby, there are still things like cancellations, delays, multiple legs and 4.5hr flights that can really suck when you just want to get home. If you are 121 and you have the option to live in base at a mainline carrier, I think it could be worth waiting for that. I had the experience of getting off the plane and going to my car after work while I was at the regionals. It adds quite a bit to quality of life IMO.

Commuting means riding a plane to get to work. At NJA, you are already at work. You are traveling on company time, on a paid work day. Yes, the airlines are miserable to ride on, but getting paid to ride on them is not the same as using your personal time to list for the jumpseat and hope you can get to work or home.

I have a bud who lived in Austin at the time. Was a PIC on the dino9 out of MSP with NWA. Got downgraded during rough times and wound up in the whale out of ANC. Now that was a commute. On his time and dime.
Riding in the back to/from work sucks for both 121 and 135 pilots. At least when I’m heading home and there are delays or cancellations, I get a very large stipend if I get home one minute after midnight. If I get home after noon on my first day off I get that stipend and the first day of my next tour off as well. Anytime you see a smile on a pilot’s face when cancelled you know who he/she works for.

The best way for this group to move forward compensation wise is for a lot of people to leave for greener $$$ pastures, in droves, I totally understand, and respect this movement,,indeed I applaud it,, you can’t keep them on the farm ,be they newbies with ink wet types,or old heads who have been here two decades, without matching the hard salaries achievable at other venues. Me personally, I’m staying, this job fits my particular familial circumstances like a glove, but for the others whose realties are a bit more open for exploration,Godspeed. A same old ,same old IBB won’t cut it,we need to see some hard money gains,short term@ long term.

The fracs are going to hit TEB, PBI and a few other places just as hard as the airlines hit their hubs. For every stop at some cool little town you’ve never heard of there’s the over night in fumbuck that requires ingenuity to reach some roach motel for a min rest overnight after cleaning the plane with tape wrapped around your palm as the wonders of dust busting haven’t reached that locale yet.
There’s plenty of interesting flying available in the 121 world if one wants to chase that stuff.

Teterhole and White Stains 6 times a month with a 10 hour overnight somewhere half way decent lol. The chances of me flying into St. Barts is now zero, but the chances of me spending 19 hours an a Hilton Garden Inn by some rest stop along a highway in the middle of nowhere is also zero.

I disagree with FlyFalcons whole heartedly on the idea that you are not commuting to and from work, because you are working. You are 100% commuting, no way around it. You aren't a professional airline traveler, you are a fractional jet pilot, and they are sending you to an airplane with the intent of you then flying that airplane to make money. It is always a last minute ticket, you still have to deal with KCM, people in the terminal, connections, weather delays, mechanicals etc. The only difference is, you have a positive space ticket to do it.
Living in base and not commuting whether it is positive space or not, is absolutely a no brainer.
