Leverage MB Thread:
What happened? Some union committee members didn't like being called out as money hoars? Some of the most active MB poster's, demanding a new contract, were also on the VAWD list. If we keep helping the company plug holes in their staffing model, we're delaying getting a new contract.

Yep. The union gave away all the leverage. By not sunsetting the 2.5 and basing. Both wins for the company. Basing is a huge recruiting tool. Why do they need to give us anything? Keep lowering the minimums and the bodies will keep coming to the waiting room until a major calls. With all the extended days being handed out that’s still cheaper than sub contract lift. If you can get it. So yea….we’re in for a long “negotiation”. I’m thinking that’s why the union went defcon 6 when the company told them to pound salt when they wanted to negotiate.

I really wonder if the union realizes what they did... Their short term victories are really overshadowed by the complete and total lack of power they have now. Zero leverage. NJASAP has always had an uphill battle when it comes to optics during negotiations so having no leverage really takes their power away.

But once he saw the LOA and the guys doing VAWDs the most, he put in for a bunch of them too.
I don’t know why we have people that will use the VED/VAWD parts of the contract but are reluctant to use fatigue or set the brake for crew food.

I don’t blame anyone not directly involved with negotiating and executing those modifications. Got paired up with a reasonably new hire this tour and he said he was absolutely against extending because he knew that gave us leverage.
