NetJets to Buy 50-120 Jets from Bombardier

$6.7 billion deal to buy up to 120 planes

(3/01/2011, Reuters, S. Kim) - Bombardier Inc said on Tuesday it has agreed to sell as many as 120 aircraft to NetJets Inc in a deal that could earn it more than $6.7 billion. The deal, consisting of a firm order of 50 jets and options to purchase a further 70, is the largest business aircraft sale for Bombardier, the world's No. 3 civil aircraft maker after Airbus and Boeing. NetJets, the corporate aircraft unit of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc, has placed orders for 50 business jets with a total value of $2.8 billion. If all the options for the additional 70 aircraft are exercised, the total value of the order will surpass $6.7 billion. Deliveries of these aircraft will begin in 2017, the company said. NetJets currently operates a global fleet of more than 800 aircraft.

My thought is that these will be for a China operation. Every time I am in China I never see anything smaller than a Global or Gulfstream. Can't imagine NJ would start an op there with Ultras. ;)

Already been asked in recurrent..No net growth for NJA..Possibly just replacements for some of the older fleets.

China? Who the heck knows...That's a pretty hefty order for an operation not even off the ground yet though.....

If I was still there I'd be excited for new airframes to get typed in...But as a furloughee, it's not real exciting news. Nothing ground breaking....A/C we'll never sit in...

The world needs more Globals. :)

Firm order for 50 Global express. 30 of those will be Global express 5000s, and we have 27 G-IVs that will need to replaced soon, you guys do the math....

my 2 cents

Are the G-IVs getting that old? I know I dont see them come through ANC a lot. Are they more of a domestic bird?

If you see a QS Gulfstream in ANC, it means is going to Asia or coming from Asia. The G-IVs hardly ever go to Asia, that's a V/550 thing...

The -IVs do Europe, Hawaii, Caribbean, upper South America and yes more and more domestic.

I work for the company that handles you guys here in ANC, so I am starting to figure out the patterns. The majority of our buisness is -Vs, and Globals. But there are a couple companies running -IVs trans-pac.

Flights from Beijing to Shangai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, etc. seem to be aroud 2-3 hours. Anything would do the job... But you're right, Asians seem to prefer large metal. Even airlines, you don't see many Regional jets around Hong Kong.

Who knows what the plan is
