Why do I suspect that NetJets will regret moving away from Gulfstream for their large cabin fleet?
|
Several rumors floating around as to why Sokol (NETJETS' former CEO) decided to leave Gulfstream for Bombardier.
My opinion, Bombardier gave him the price he wanted |

Because 90% of pilots think they know everything. |
So is NetJets ever going to recall thier pilots and start hiring again? I can't hang on too much longer at the regional level...

69% of statistics are made up on the spot.

Better get a back-up plan...... Forecast is for recalls to start sometime in 2014... Will actually be pleasantly suprised if they do by then...
The big question is: how many of those 495 will come back when re-called?? NJI furloughed 31 G-V guys, plus those furloughed from the Falcon 2000, G-200 and Citation X fleets... You're at a good flight department flying a Falcon or Citation X, would you come back to Netjets when/if re-called?? keep in mind they'd most likely offer you the Phenom 300... Anywho, the first step in the re-call process is not to furlough anymore... |

Anywho, the first step in the re-call process is not to furlough anymore... No, if I was at a good flight department I'd at the very least defer until the very end. The schedule alone at NJA is pretty crappy compared to respectable charter/corporate gigs. I'm at a small time department, in a segment of the industry with seemingly good job security. The wife and I have discussed it recently. While she is worried about another furlough (if we ever get recalled), the pro's do outweigh the cons for us..... (by the time a recall "would take place, we'll be debt free besides any mortgage we decide to endure). So as long as it is no sooner than 2014 I'll return kicking and screaming though!! With the lack of movement at NJA, along with airlines possibly hiring by 2014, along with people not going back to NJA due to better situations, I think attrition and recalls #'s will affect hiring by 2016 or so..... Don't think it will take all that long to run through the furloughed list. Or the economy ramps up like crazy this year (doubtful, modest growth at best) and 2013 is the year..... Or the fractional model tanks, NJA recalls in 2020 and none of us even remember who Netjets was...:) If you have access to njcrew, check out Eyers msg. concerning recent furlough rumors...... In my 10+ years in commercial aviation that was the most forceful response I've seen to a furlough rumor... Normally I don't read/believe any of what they say, but instead of milking the furlough rumor to leverage the pilot group, he flat out says (paraphrasing) "we have no intention of furloughing, the fleet and staffing plan don't call for it, and as long as the economy/business does what we thing it will due, plan on having recalls start in 2014.." |
2014. Ought to be interesting stepping back in the sim after 4 years of not flying...:D
|
I would say more pilots would accept the recall than not. Keep in mind that returning to NJA in 2014 would mean coming back at year 6,7 or 8 year pay. That is not chump change my friends. Atleast for me , that will beat the heck out of the on demand 135 meat grinder I find myself in.
Sure, some may have found a wonderful corporate position and I am happy for them. Lets not forget that NJA still offers a very nice quality of life. You don't know what you have until it is gone. |

Schedules at EK, EY and QR can be brutal. Just had lunch with an EK pilot in DXB; loads of 3am reports, two-crew, 9 hours of flying down and back to the Sub-continent. Min rest at home and back out.

That sounds good to me. I just started at the regionals. It would be great if I could move over to NJ after 5 years

Very true... I was guessing that maybe 200 guys may have found work at JB, SWA, good corporate, something other than aviation, upgrade at places like Kalitta, or retied altogether..... JB alone had to take maybe 20 guys? And possibly more by 2014 (along with SWA/DELTA??hopefully) I will return just for the basing. I make more flying maybe 30 hrs a month and being home every night now. But don't want to live where we are at forever. |
Well at least now I have a date to match the presumable recall time. I've been working on Plan B for some time now, and started Plan C and may actually have to put that into effect! Interesting Industry. Oh well. Thanks for the info guys.

I'd leave NJA off your planning... If they ever do really hire it is agreat plan "A".. IMO a better job than a Legacy just from what I know about Legacies.. (no commute, better food, usually better hotels etc) The schedule is a little worse and the pay not quite as high but close enough. And the city pairs are great vs. mundane same city stuff. |
