Seaborne Airlines

I am surprised nobody is talking about these guys. I am guessing a lot of the Saab drivers from Colgan or Mesaba could be street Captains. They pay 100% health premiums so I wonder how good the coverage is? Also 13 days off a month better then most if not all regionals. Plus Holiday pay. They really must want to attract pilots.

When are they starting their Caribbean Saab ops?

It looks like this Feb. They plan to double their fleet by May. I do not know anything more about this carrier other then what is posted on this website.

Airline Pilot Central - Seaborne | Regional

I was just surprised to see no one talking about it. With everything that is going on in the industry to see a start up paying for so many things that others are taking away. I am interested to see what their pay will after you complete your PC.

Hope they open up an FLL or MIA base.

I worked at Seaborne in 2000. You can't live on their pay in STX.

I flew for Cape Air in 1999-2000, I was based in St. Thomas. Knew some people there, they liked the job, but i got the feeling that was a temporary thing for most of them like it was for some of us at Cape. It was an adventure and a way to get turbine time for some of those guys

PCLCREW is right, St. Croix and St. Thomas are expensive places to live

Boat shoes and shorts for the uniform? Hmm...where was that application link again?

I am a former Colgan SF340 Captain. I was based in IAD. I went to work for Seaborne on 10/15/12 as an instructor to help them get their program off the ground. Here is what I think so far:

Seaborne is a very small company. In a lot of ways that is a good thing and in someways can be a little challenging. What I mean by that is based on the fact that we are small, you can and will get answers to your questions. You will work very closely with those who are in leadership positions and that is all good. On the downside, if you have a great idea, based on the fact that we are so small, you will likely be doing all the work implementing your idea.
The people there are very nice and work hard. The management does listen to the pilot group more than any other company I worked for. We are introducing a new product (Saabs) and thus we are going through growing pains as you would expect any new operation to go through.
Living in the islands is expensive. That being said so is living in Washington DC and other major cities around the US. Living on an island is an experience not for the faint of heart. I am recently getting over an illness that has kept me down for the better part of two weeks.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask, I am more than happy to help. If anyone is interested in coming here as a street captain, those days may be coming to an end sooner than later. We have a class starting tomorrow that is all street captain and may have a few more after that. However, in the very near future, all new hires will be First Officers.

BTW, pay scales start at 25.00 hr for FO, 40.00hr for DHC6 wheels, 45.00 hr for SF340 and top out at 10 years dual pay captain 93.00. Hope this helps.

I lived in both IAD and STX throughout my career. STX is far more expensive then IAD for example.
It's not only just housing. It's food, clothes, Milk etc etc.
I lasted 4 months before I bugged out.
It is a nice little company, but a nice company that pays crap doesn't change the fact that your broke.
Also just like you said island living is not for everyone. People think oh it's paradise. It's paradise for people on vacation.
Again it's a nice company, but if your tired of living with 3 other guys in a cramped 1 bedroom then it's not for you.
I thought it was awesome for about 2 weeks, then reality set in.
