Hi Mrhr5b, could you share with us how you handle a single-engine failure in a Chieftain? There are quite a few steps involved and I am curious as to which order you do these steps in.

Gear up

Pumps off

It seems to me that the cowl flaps are critical but I'm not sure of the best place for them in this scenario.
What are the cowl flaps for?

Cooling.

Your priority is to get away from the ground, get a climb established, clear obstacles, and then clean house. Power, gear and flaps are critical to getting up and away. Your cowl flaps hurt climb performance and don't need to be opened immediately. Don't be in too big a rush to get things done, and that includes handling an engine failure.

Here's how they are training me:

Mixture, props, throttles, full forward. (We don't go full rich before landing normally)
Flaps to 15 degrees
Gear up
Flaps up
Climb at Blue Line.

Pumps stay on until 1000 ft, open cowl flaps when everything else is under control.

Hey, EN, that's great. How are they having you do a single-engine failure?

Give me a couple days and I’ll have if for you in complete detail if you want. It depends on what phase of flight we are in. Like on final inside the faf is different that just after takeoff different than cruise. The basic is:
Memory items and then perform checklists when safe, I’ll share it with you when I get home.

Are they having you go flaps 0 before or after blue line?
