Alaska 135 Operators
Recently on numerous job boards I've seen a lot of 135 operators in Alaska posting ads for pilot positions. I am doing research and evaluating options before applying.
Looking for recommendations on operators that would be the best to apply too and the operators to stay away from. Thanks ! Current qualifications: CFI, CFII, MEI Commercial SEL, SES, MEL 1500TT, 115 MEL, 100 SES, 170 TW, 25 Turbine A&P apprentice (testing soon) |
What kind of flying do you want to be doing in Alaska? Slinging freight? Tours? IFR? VFR? Floats?
If you're looking for a place with good travel benefits, Ravn/Ravn Connect will be your best bet. |

Ideally, I would like to be flying floats. After teaching SES courses for a summer, I realize that is some of the most fun flying I have ever done.
Ketchikan has Taquan and Misty Fjords. Most of those companies have a mix of moving people, freight, and air tours. If you're looking to come up soon, you have likely already missed the hiring window for the summer. |

Lots of float work in Southeast, I know there's plenty around Anchorage as well but I don't know any companies off the top of my head. In Juneau check out Alaska Seaplanes, Ward Air, Wings Airways, and I'm sure there are a few more I'm not thinking of at the moment.

from some of there pilots I have met this year. |
Everts Air Cargo out of PAFA is another great place to work. One can matriculate over the the 121 side of the house to the MD-80 or the DC-6.

I heard getting onto BA is super difficult. However, I’ve heard that they are a great, safe operator.
