800 hours open any doors in the 135 world?

Hi All,

I’ve been a CFI for the past year and with the recent outbreak my school has slowed way way down! So now wondering if maybe this might be time to start looking at some new doors.

Would love just some leads I can reach out too. Here is where I have tried so far. Alaska bush carriers( Ravn, Grant, Ace), Ameriflight, boutique, and JSX.

Would love to hear about survey companies, pipeline, Alaska operators, cargo, anything! Willing to relocate! Would prefer no training contract if possible! Really appreciate the help and stay safe out there!

With all of compass and TSA pilots on the street, I’d be shocked if 1000 turbine PIC barely opens a door in the near future. Your ONLY hope is they suspect you won’t move on as quickly as you’d be less qualified.

Do you have your CFII and MEI? AMF is actually hiring a couple of BE99 instructors. You don't need 1200 but you do need CFII and MEI and close to mins for CC, Night and Instrument time. Relocation to DFW is required.

Unfortunately I just broke the 800 mark so not even close to ifr minimums. But I do have my II but no Mei.

Dang I really hope that wouldn’t be the case. I’m hoping this will blow over sooner rather than later

The IFR mins are not hard. But you would have to have an MEI since we don't have and SE aircraft.

So how does an Instructor under Part 135 that doesn't meet Part 135 IFR mins qualify under 14 CFR Part 135.338?

And where is it written that an instructor under Part 135 is required to hold a flight instructor certificate?

I am at 850, same as you CFI/CFII no MEI

JSX is pushing back classes. Also just got an email Tuesday saying 1200tt is now minimum and 1500tt is now competitive.

Don't know about other 135s in this climate, but there are 100s of pilots with 121 time that just got laid off or will get furloughed that are now searching for jobs and more qualified than you.

I qualify for R-ATP at 1000 so I am just chugging along much slower at my flight school while this thing hits us hoping for a federal reduction in student loans and working my regular job. Hopefully I can squeeze in somewhere when the hiring resumes, but this event has me thinking I will not be getting rid of my steady government job anytime soon for the volatility of the airline industry

I’m not thinking the desired MEI has anything to do with instructing under the P135 certificate, but rather a certain level of experience desired if the applicant doesn’t even meet the desired total hours minimums.

There are a bunch of threads here and elsewhere on the internet about flying in Alaska. I think some searching will help you find some answers you are looking for.

Aside from the usual ravn, grant, ace, bering air I haven't really found to many other places to look into... But if you have some more info I would love to hear about it!

FYI to anyone else... I do have my MEL and 27 hours multi just didn't bother to get my MEI since I knew I wouldn't put it to use.
