Default Be400a/xp

Anyone know what the difference are between the 400a and the 400xp?
rough Internet search turned nothing obvious

From what I can recall, just the name. The 400A was just the Beechjet as we know it, Collins, glass cockpit and came about in 89ish from the original 400, which was known as "the straight 400" which was essentially the original product from Mitsubishi (the Diamond Jet) before it just had Beechcraft logos put on it and had steam gages and a slightly different fuel system.

The 400XP is just the 400A but after they started affixing "Hawker" to the jet line at Beechcraft, which was taken over by Hawker.

So an A is essentially the Beechjet, the XP is essentially a Beechjet masquerading as a Hawker. And the no designation was basically the original product (minus a few small details). Could be wrong, it's been a hot minute since I flew them, but going back to them as the current job isn't looking so hot insofar as allowing me to continue. Good airplane for what it's worth. 🙂

Yeah, I scored 50 hours in them before heading to the regionals. Just never touched the xp. Didn't know if there were systems changes on the xp. From what I'm reading now, no.

Thanks got the help. Looks like I'll be back on the bj now too

Yeah. It is what it is. I'm grateful for a job. The biggest thing I disliked about them is the "honey bucket." The airplane seemed to truck right through turbulence just fine. Balanced field was apparently good back when it was new but not as good as a CJ3 or CJ4 now. Haven't had any 400XT time yet. Looking forward to that.

I tend to like it when pax bring a lot of bags..gotta tie them down in the lav, which means no one uses the lav!

As far as differences, I think most of the differences occur between the RK model numbers..some later variations got fuel heaters, some had remote oil checks instead of having to pull the dipstick before flying. One of the biggest differences was the ramp and take off weights though. Older models ramp max at 16300, with take off at 16,100, while later models ramped at 16,500 with max take off at 16,100.

...this thread is good practice for my recurrent

Remember: Friends don't let Friends fly Beechjets.

Considering the Carona Virus pandemic, a papal-dispensation can be granted but only if you promise to graduate from that POS at some time in the future.

Re; "Straight 400", the biggest difference from the Diamond was the bigger engines. The Diamond is an absolute dog, while the straight 400 is sporty (for a Beechjet), due to not dragging around all of those fancy avionics and thrust reversers. Also has smaller brakes. Ask me how I know.

Ahhhhh, things I don't miss...
