Base is probably going to be ABQ or possibly PHX. Primary reason being that those are the bases that are most conducive to VFR flying almost all of the time.

I don't have any specifics on schedules. It would be normal customer runs from the base.

I also can't say anything to the ability to gain night time. Primarily because our Ops procedures say that we can only fly VFR at night if there is an approved VFR routing for the run. And I don't know if we have those set up for the runs the VFR pilots are on.

Our VFR pilot program is primarily set up to bring on pilots who don't meet the 1200 threshold, not necessarily night time. You would probably need to talk with one of our recruiters to get the answer to that question.

Awesome, thanks so much for the info.

Can anybody give info on the VFR Chieftain position. I am just about to 1200 hours total time but I only have like 45 night. Does anybody know what the schedule is like, base, pay, and do you get night time? Thanks!

mike5096, PM I can provide you with details. There is potential for roughly an hour a day of night time in the winter, especially if you meet IFR mins. Summer time its almost nonexistent.

Where are you looking to move to?

PDX

I currently live next to RDM, we could move to Portland real easy.

That would really be a bummer since E120 FO is the position that I originally applied for last month, guess I better go back in and apply for one the VFR pilot openings. Thanks for the great info and updates!

What's the chance of getting PHX fresh out of training? Or, if that's not likely, roughly how long until it would be available?

Getting there is not an issue. The odds are good for you to be able to be based there. The issue is if you would initially be flying there or have to go on the road a good bit. It all depends on how the base is currently staffed.

If their staffing is such where they need pilots, you can get on a run right away there. If they are staffed, you might spend a good bit of time on the road helping other bases.

But actually getting there shouldn't be a problem.

That could be an issue for a type rated airplane. PDX is predominately a PA31/BE99 base. They have one metro and two BE1900 runs. Both are currently staffed and there are plenty of guys at the base who would like to take them if they came open.

Not to say you couldn't be based in PDX flying a metro or 1900. But you would likely be TDY a lot until you could hold a line there.

Roughly how long would it take to hold a 1900 or Metro line, in your opinion?

No idea. I'm not familiar enough with the PDX base to know who the pilots are and when they might move on. I do know that in the past most of the guys from there who want to move to bigger equipment wind up changing bases.
