I just got the "Thanks but we are no longer looking for pilots" email from Debbie today. Guess they are full. Good luck in your class to those who got a shot!!!

Any one of you that are in the Aug 24 class received the Ameriflight package in the mail? I think they said we were suppose to get it on thursday?

You beat me to it mosquito. I was going to ask that question tonight, but decided to wait and see if it arrives tomorrow. If not, I'm going to call on Monday and see what they say.

Does anyone in the August 24th class have a plan for living arrangements? Were you told where you would most likely be based? Just wondering how the rest of you guys/girls are handling that situation. Look forward to seeing ya'll there.

When I talked to Debbi she asked for your base preference of either Portland or Oakland; I put down Portland. In the packet e-mail that you should be getting from her it states that we're going to be staying at the Ramada in the block of rooms they have reserved. There will be 2 occupants per room.

I got that email, too. What I meant was, how is everyone planning on finding rooms or apartments once they get to their base. I was just curious if anyone is going to be looking for roommates or if they already have their living situation (once finished with training) figured out. I requested Oakland, but would be happy with Portland, too. I have a friend already based in Oakland willing to split an apartment, but was just considering the alternative if I do get Portland. Does anyone have suggestions for good areas in either? My buddy already with Ameriflight suggested Alameda, CA. Any others? I'm moving from New Jersey, so I'm not at all familiar with either place.

Dang, I thought moving from Missouri was far enough.

Oakland is a hole, lots of crime, don't even think about living around there..its like Newark and KEWR airport, maybe not as bad, but if you're from NJ, you know what I'm talking about

San Francisco is very nice (my favorite place in the States), but expensive. That won't work unless you get a few roomates.. if you go south towards San Jose or north towards Santa Rosa, it starts to get a bit cheaper.... the Napa valley is georgus (to the NE)..

Bottom line, Oakland- sucks, and San Francisco- expensive... plan on driving at least 30-40 minutes

I don't work for AMF, but I can tell you that Portland is a very nice city, and I would try and bid there if you can. I have quite a few friends that fly at Horizon that are based in PDX, and a lot of them either live across the river in Vancouver, WA or West of PDX in Hillsboro, OR. There is no Sales Tax in Oregon, and the cost of living is obvioulsy a lot cheaper than OAK/Bay Area.
