Any 135.293 or 135.297 can be used for an ATP ride, as long as you have a qualified examiner with you.

You can get your ATP in either a single or a multi engine aircraft. If you do the single first, you will have to take another ATP written test for the multi engine added rating. Not many places want the single engine ATP license, but it might be something to consider when applying to places that use both single and multi engine aircraft.

Hi!

If U R short on funds, get your CFI/CFII first, as it is easier to make money flying as an instructor. I made the mistake of paying for my ATP-MEL instead of using the $ for CFI stuff, and it set my career back.

If you already have your CFI, it is a good idea, if you can afford it, to help you get a job. Some places will have hour mins, OR you need an ATP-MEL. So if you're short on hours of some type, the ATP will help out.

ALSO, if you're in a situation like mine and have your ATP-MEL, but don't have a Comm-SEL, it is quicker, cheaper and easier to add-on an ATP-SEL, vs. doing the training and checkride for a Comm-SEL. I can't fly skydivers, CFI, etc., without getting either an ATP-SEL or Comm-SEL. The ATP add-on is a good way to go in that case.

Good luck, and God Bless!

I tried to get it while at my old 135 company, but it never worked out to get our POI out during one of my 6mo/12mo checkrides. I did my single-ATP this spring in a Saratoga(free ride) because the local DPE needed to get his supervised ride in, and does this as a favor because he prefers a commercial/ATP types when he's being watched. I plan on doing a multi hopefully soon because we just got in some twins that I should be able to use this Jan/Feb. If not I'll just pay for his time and get it so I can clean up my license

Ok, let me back up what I have said about "Added ratings" FAR 61.165 says that if you want to ADD a rating, you must take a Knowledge test to get that Added Rating.

Here's the link to the site to back it up.
Electronic Code of Federal Regulations:

In a nutshell, you must if you have a ATP SEL and want to add MEL, you must take a test.

I disagree, It the same as getting a multi comm when you already have a single comm you don't need to re-take the written just another practical.

61.165

(e) Additional class rating within the same aircraft category. A person applying for an airline transport certificate with an additional class rating who holds an airline transport certificate in the same aircfaft category must—

(1) Meet the eligibility requirements of §61.153, except paragraph (f) of that section;

(2) Comply with the requirements in §61.157(b) of this part, if applicable;

(3) Meet the applicable aeronautical experience requirements of subpart G of this part; and

(4) Pass a practical test on the areas of operation of §61.157(e) appropriate to the aircraft rating sought.

Copy and pasting is fun
