American Jet International in Houston TX
Who can tell me more about AJI American Jet International.
What's the interview like? Written test from the ATP Gleim, Sim, etc? What do you like and dislike about AJI? What are the upgrade times to the left seat? Let's say you are a FO on the Citation, can you bid to become a FO on the Challenger for example? How are schedules determined? I believe there is a year training contract. What I don't know is if you need to fund that or if it is a promisary note. In other words, is this PFT or not? I was told that you can make between 35 to 40K in your first year. Is this accurate? Is this a place you can retire with or is it a stepping stone? How is maintenance? How is the pilot group taken care-off? Are they considered expendable or taken care off? Anything else you can tell me, clue me in on, etc. You can PM me if you prefer? Thanks in advance for your insight! |

I can tell you they fly a lot of medical middle of the night stuff. The lears they have are high time with a lot of landing cycles. Good news I heard from one of their guys last week he said they were finishing the final steps on adding a new lear 31. They seem to get southwest interviews fairly easy ( they don't all get hired ). Good bunch of guys as far as the pilots go. Can't really tell about management though. I believe there pay is on the low side and I really don't think it is a final career move for sure. If you are looking to build time it's as god as any other 135 I guess as long as you don't mind a lot of night flying. Good luck with your choice!

I almost have the required times to apply to AJI. I have two friends that work there and they have not had anything bad to say about it; they do work a lot. The Citation III pilot's schedule is two weeks on and one off as the Lear pilot's schedule is eight on and four off. The pay is ok; you are eligible for some type of bonus and they do pay well for flying on your days off. This is going by memory only and since I do not have much left I believe the King Air and Lear pilots do fly a lot of medical flights; in the middle of the night. The CIII crews do mostly non-medical flights. I am meeting a friend of mine who flys there for lunch sometime this week and will get more information about the company/upgrades/schedule/pay and whatever other information might be pertinent for interested pilots. :D

had an hour and 20 minute hr interview on the phone, apparently i dont make the grade,

Yep, a few years ago I walked my stuff in and got an HR phone interview for a C650 FO slot, but never heard back from them. 121 HR depts don't seem to have a problem with me but they did I guess. Oh well.
