the grey gulls isn't much of a program to my knowledge. its just Cape providing an advertisement saying we also hire old people over 65. And if you want part time they'll try and force you to do full time for awhile (since they're desperate for pilots and always will be). try not to fall for it. part time and on call does not receive any benefits to my knowledge.

My read is that part of the reason to want a pilot full time initially is to get proficient. Show you’re up for the job. And the reason they can let 65+ retired 121 go part time is there isn’t extra benefits cost due to Medicare etc. Finally just generally the feeling that retired 121 adds desirable maturity and experience to the pilot group. Some have also instructed.

Hasnt it gotten to the point they are cancelling flights due to lack of crew? Definitely seems like they've been losing pilots in droves... Shame because my nephew wants to fly for them after he gets his ratings.

Greetings
I am age 64 and looking at Cape Air to specifically live on the Big Island of Puerto Rico. Any encouragement? They've been willing to hire me on as a Gray Gull and hopefully they'd just consider me for a full time position.

Council??? Help.
Been reluctant to pull the trigger after reading some of the thread. Seems like an alright place, but this is a life changing decisión for me and a possible place to wrap things up in 5 - 7 years. Island hoping has it's appears as I flew many of these routes in BN2A-8 for Dorado Wings Commuter Airlines back in 1978 - 79. Give me the straight scoop as I do have a 5 day per month 100 hour per year co-captain gig on a Phenom 300. I'm not a time builder. I havex15,000 ++ hours DC9 type, B727-200 type, and the EMB-505 type. My CFIAMEI ticket and ratings are all current. Whoopi ding right? That's what I might be thinking if I read this post. I just thought I could help. Like I stated I would just like to fly in the Islands again and keep my Spanish fluency sharp by living on La Isla Grande o posible Culebra o Vieques.
