Duty hours are the total time you're on duty. If you show at 0600 and release at 1800, you get 12 hours of pay, regardless of how much you actually fly.

As miller said it's $15/hr first year. It sounds low, but remember that anything over 40 hours in a week is paid at 150%, and that you'll almost never work the minimum unless you specifically bid a hard line that has a lot of time off (RKD, LNS, HGR), and don't chase the busy seasons. If you don't mind some hard work, you'll do fine here*.

By the way, the $11.50/hour you're referring to is the "PIC qualified FO" rate for those who are qualified to fly the mail (at least 1200 hours), but don't yet have ATP mins. If you have an ATP, you're making $15/hour.

* If you want some real numbers, my 2009 YTD gross pay on my check with an ending period of 7/19/09 was just over $27,500. You can extrapolate the next 5 months to see what a full year's pay would be if you really work hard. I also spent the winter in the Caribbean ($3/hr override and higher guarantee) and hold a high-time line in the northeast. I work my butt off (I routinely block 100-105 hours/month), but the paychecks aren't terrible.

Ok, thanks, that makes more sense. Actually kinda sounds like a better way to pay pilots. Paying by the flight hour means that you end up doing a lot of things for free.

I like the duty pay, too. I will say though that the only downside is that you really have to put in a lot of duty to make money, vs. someone paid by the flight hour who can fly a highly efficient trip with minimum duty but lots of pay. Then again, on my line I do 14 hour days three days a week (with a 9 hour "half day" in there too ), and spend most of those days sitting in the crew room being paid to BS with the other pilots and play on my iPhone. I suppose it's a wash.

I don't want to work, but I also like big paychecks. That's the ultimate conundrum.

For anyone that has recently interviewed (last few months), would you mind giving the low down on how they are running the interviews nowadays? The latest gouges I can find are about a year old at least now, and I'm wondering if they have changed now that things are more competitive. I noticed there was a class earlier in the summer, and not sure if you folks were already in a pool but either way just trying to find some recent(ish) info. Thanks!

Wow, Im a 5th yr Eagle FO commuting to JFK and my paycheck is about the same as that, damn! What are the typical duty days in the northeast(BOS) like (report/finish times)? How many days per week do you work to get 90-100hrs/month?

Duty days vary. 90-100 hrs a month would be a nice schedule but a ****ty pay check you could work every other week and get that many hours.

Min for full time is 140hrs/month at 35hrs/week. I do 200/month during the busy season and closer to the 140/mo during the winter.

Summer lines are typically a 5 on 2 off or a 4 on 3 off. Duty days this summer have been 9hrs/day give or take.

Pay doesn't suck but to make any money your gonna have to work your butt off. I try to alternate seasons between working a lot and having a bunch of time off. Unfortunately its a trade off but, it has worked out pretty well for me.

Hey, quit slacking off and come bring me a mechanic. I'm stuck up here in the woods with a big-ass oil leak.

But yeah, I bill right at about 210-215 duty hours per month, which equates to 100-105 flight hours. Make no mistake though: I'm tired, and am looking forward to (hopefully) having a nice easy schedule this winter.
