Cessna 208 landing cycles = 15,000 cycles for main gear strut / spring replacement.

Perhaps Cape Air should talk with one of their competitors, Island Airlines (the red tail 402s) and see what they think about their Caravan? My understanding is that Island Airlines is operating a new G1000 equipped Caravan on the HYA-ACK-HYA routes. Having flown both the 402 and the 208, I truly think that at least as far as passenger and baggage capacity goes, the Caravan would come the closest in being the best choice as replacement. It is a very easy aircraft to fly and just look at companies such as Tradewind Aviation and Linear Air who have been flying caravans on routes to MVY and ACK in the summer with no issue from what I have heard or seen. Me, I'd go with the Van.....

Hell, they should just go ahead and get a bunch of piper matrix's, and call it a day.

Wouldn't that trigger the mandatory SIC? I thought turbine ME over 9 seats, 135 required the SIC, no autopilot waiver.

Hmmm. That's a good question. I'll have to look that one up.

This would be a serious contender (if they ever build it) and get Cape to switch to turbine power.

Under 9 seats = good: Pt 135, Sched Air Carrier Ops - SE operators: SIC required in lieu of A/P.

Means if you have the A/P MEL'd, then you have to have an appropriately rated (and 135 trained) pilot in the right seat. PW/NMA/GA operates with either trained SIC's or CA / CA crews.

It's legit.

Over nine seats, I think you're right.

The 'Van can be configured to 12 seats, but that is NOT comfortable. Pax ops can break even around 3-4 pax, if you keep costs down and tidy.

It looks like a MU-2 with a T-tail and P&W instead of Garretts
