Are they talking to manufacturers to develop a new twin? There is no multi engine plane on the market that could possibly replace a 402. Perhaps an islander? say it ain't so.

Twin Caravan? No that's probably an ugly plane. They're still making Twin Otters so maybe it's time they step up and go turbine again?

The only other option is what, Navajo Panthers? Except those are out of production too

"We're having conversations with various manufacturers that would be able to work with us. But we believe in a multi-engine paradigm. Our request is a multi-engine, nine-passenger aircraft with acquisition costs and operating costs around where the Cessna 402 is at," reveals company founder and CEO Dan Wolf.
Doesn't want much there, does he?

Hows about the Reims F406?

Looks like a C404 w/PT6's.

Any body know if these are new production or referbs like the Lock and key Navajo's (still considered 80's vintage)?

The F406s are made new by Reims but they are an old design. Essentially a 404 like SenecaDriver said. They are also as expensive as any twin turboprop. I don't think Cape Air would go with turboprops, since, like they said, they wan't something with comparable maintenance costs etc. It seems like a long shot to me.

They are made over in France and labeled as the F406 Caravan II. Basically a 404 with PT-6's. Only two operators with them in the U.S. I think Priority Air cargo was one? Not sure if they still have theirs since they own a PC-12 now?

With the majority of routes under an hour, it's too hard to beat the 30gph/180 pph total that the 402 burns in cruise with a turbine, so a plane that burns jet-a is unlikely.
