Part 135 Cargo ???
 

Hey all... I was curious if anyone could give me some input on how Part 135 cargo ops like Ameriflight actually make there money....I know they fly cargo LOL but I was just wondering how they get paid? I see these guys flying in one after the other in the early evening into KSLC to drop at the UPS feeder network here. I am wondering do they get paid by the pound, by the route??? Any insight would be great. I am just curious how they make there money because I know it costs alot to operate Metros, BE-99's and 1900's.

It's by Aircraft Rate...almost like a daily charter except the rate is negotiated per move and schedule.

What is the difference between a freight forwarder and a broker???

The only thing you really need to know about the 135 freight world is...get [...] out as soon as you can....there are many thieves in the biz at that level and they are always trying to get you to fly clapped out airplanes or do illegal things or saying we will have enough to pay you if you just fly this next trip.

I don't think you know what your talking about. Freight companies get a lot of flak from pilots who haven't experienced it. Is it true that freight companies make you fly through thunderstorms, or with more weight than the airplane can handle? Yes, but there are very few places like that. If you fly for a part 135 cargo company, just remember; YOU are the PIC and have full responsibility of the operations of the aircraft you are piloting. No one is going to strap you down in an unworthy airplane 1000lbs over weight, start the engine, apply full power lock it there, and say "good luck!" :eek:

If you follow the regs and use common sense it is not a dangerous job.

Flying freight is awesome! Nobody ever pukes or complains about the ride! Just follow the FAR's, because it's YOUR career.

we often leave :10 or :20 minutes EARLY
no hats
sunrises can be a wonderful sight

Just be careful when the Honey Bees get out of their boxes and loose inside the airplane at FL210. This is happened on more than one occasion to my fellow Ameriflighters. Thankfully it happened to me when I was just about to open the crew door.
