Can ATP perform part 135 dispatcher duties?
 

Does any one know if a current ATP pilot can perform aircraft dispatcher duties for a part 135 operation? I have made a quick look into the requirements for dispatcher, it looks like the same written is used as ATP followed by an oral evaluation by an examiner (similar or the same as ground portion of ATP checkride).

135 "dispatchers" are flight followers. No certificate required and they just have to be aware of the departure, arrival and have a system to follow the progress of the flight.

At least thats what our ops specs require, I don't know if other companies have different requirments.

And while the written is about the same (added questions about dispatcher duty time), the practical test isn't like any ATP oral I've had. The Fed gave me a set of charts, a weather package, a 727 AFM and MEL. Then had me work up a release DFW-LAS. Then we spent a couple hours going over the release. It ended up 4 fours at the DFW ACDO.

Yes, you can. It's not hard. Basically all you do is setup FBO's and make sure the freight will fit legally and safely. It varries on the operation though. Sometimes pilots will have you file for them and other times pilots will do it. Part 135 Followers DO NOT have operational control unless the D.O. gives permission to you. The other thing is it's whatever the pilot says goes...unless the D.O. interveens.

As for the endorcement for ADX, it's exactly what Twin Wasp said. If you know what you're doing, it's easy and quick. Just know duty times and study up a bit on the 727-200.

I did mine 25 years ago. I think now it's more 737 based.

I did mine 2 years ago and it was still on the 727! =D
