King Air 90 questions

Hi,

I have few questions. I had got called and interviewed last week for a King air 90 job for a part 135 op. I got a call yesterday saying they would like me to come up and actually fly in the airplane to get an idea of my basic airmanship. They understand I have never flown anything turbine before and he said he would help me out. However, before going into it I would like to get an idea on what power settings will give you what airspeeds. If anybody could provide me any help on that or any other tips or advice for flying the airplane that would be great.

Thanks

Chris

Here's some info from my Simcom E90 book.

Initial Maneuvering / Level: 800# - 160 kias
Descending: 300# - 160 kias
FAF Inbound (precision): 500# - 120 kias
FAF Inbound (nonprecision): 300# - 120 kias
Level at MDA: 800# - 120 kias
Visual Final: 500# - 100 kias
Missed appr.: 1200# - 120 kias

These were guidlines for the sim, but they should prove pretty accurate in the aircraft. Hope this helps and good luck!

Another thing to keep in mind is that the C-90 is somewhat roll sensitive. I found my self overcontrolling on the alerons a bit at first. The C-90 is a great airplane that I enjoyed flying.

The King Air 90 is a fun ship to fly. I have quite a bit of time in it. Have fun, relax and enjoy the ride.

Well, as promised I am going to let you know what happend. First of all it was awesome plane to fly. Chief pilot took me through the whole preflight startup and everything. He let me fly the whole time. We did an ILS missed approach and hold. Also did some steep turns. I did not get the job because I had problems trying to holding altitude. It was faster than what I am used to and my altitude was all over the place. I told him I would have been all over my students for that. The problem I had was that I have never flown anything that was very pitch and roll sensitive. The seneca I is like driving a tank. You really have to work to turn it and esspecially landing with the flare. The King air was totally different feel. Once I got it slowed down for the approach the ILS went fine and holding went great. It was at the higher airspeeds I had trouble. They they will keep my resume and told me to keep sending them updates. Really great people there. Very professional. Sounds like a great place to work and I plan on reapplying.

Good Attitude

ERJ :

Sounds like you have a good attitude about things. That is good. I am glad it is not getting you down.

ERJ135 07-22-2006 02:54 PM

Hey, thanks. I am pretty dissapointed I really wanted that job but I have a few interviews lined up with commutair and another op similar to the one I interviewed for.

GauleyPilot 07-22-2006 04:16 PM

Just don't feel down about one flight. The next time you are asked you could nail every aspect and make up for it.

ERJ-
curious...have you ever looked into linear or wiggins or cape air? Just curious. You mentioned them to me and i was wondering what you thought of them. I cant wait to move back to the northeast.

I have checked those companies out extensivly. With Linear, right now they all single engine, I am looking for a job flying something multi engine. I need to start logging more multi engine time, esspecially multi turbine time. Though I know they are getting the Eclipse jet. With Cape Air they require an ATP and more than 1500tt. Unless I wanted to go to Guam to fly the ATR. All great companies but, not exactly what I am looking for. I'll be honestly with you, I am really looking for a cushy part 91 gig i the NH area. I think or know that I will need to jump through some hoops before I get there. If you notice my aviator, it a picture of a GIV, based out of Pease. It belongs to High Tech Aircraft Corp AKA Armstrong investments. Back in the day of bringing planes to PSM for radio work I saw that airplane in hangar and I fell love with it. It beautiful. I walked over and complemented the guy polishing the side of it. He invited me aboard for a look inside. It is just as nice inside as on the outside. Cockpit was awesome. There were hot towels for the pilots waiting there were a huge meals, steak and everything. I always thought, geez that is the way to go as a pilot. I would love a job flying that plane. In fact I have planes on calling them, not for job now, as I certainly do not qualify but, for the future. Just curious as to what they'll say. For those not familar with N721RL here is a link, its on airliners.net.

Its pretty cool check it out

This is obviously too late but for future reference you should consider going to simuflite or flight safety and paying for a couple hours in their C90 sim. $300.00 an hour - just a suggestion

Yeah ERJ, sorry to hear you didn't get the job, however with an attitude like that you have nothing, absolutely nothing to worry about. Your time will come.

Best wishes & blue skies.
