Required Rest and Hotels

Is there anywhere in the FARs or in FAA policies that requires pilots to be in separate hotel rooms to qualify as rest for part 135?

No. And nothing says it has to be a hotel. Tents, or sleeping bags are just fine.

Call in fatigued and say the other guy snored too loud..

Man, that's rough. I'd kick the other guy out...unless you're the FO...

TedStryker 05-25-2010 08:02 AM

No, there isn't. It could be an FBO crew lounge with 6 pilots snoring in it.

That's what I figured. It hasn't gotten to this point yet except for day rooms. If its does get to this point for overnights, well I don't know how many pilots will keep the job.

Are you flying pax or cargo? How much does your company for overnights?

rthompsonjr 05-25-2010 02:23 PM

Pax, and a ton of overnights. For overnight we get separate rooms, but we've had a couple of trips recently with a ten hour sit at a FBO. They've been trying to only get us one room for those. So far we've managed to fight it but we were looking for a legal reason they had to get us two rooms.

They do that here. I haven't had the "pleasure" of "enjoying" a day room for required rest where the other guy decides to walk around shirtless and stripped down to boxers.

He smells bad enough in the cockpit. I can't imagine if he were able to "air out" in a day room.

...not the guy I'm currently flying with. The guy I'm about to get stuck back with.
