Air Cargo Carriers

Hi there I am wondering what the general opinion of Air Cargo Carriers is within the community. I have met a few people who have previously worked with them and they have had good things to say but none of them have been with the company within the last 6 years. I have always been fascinated with the Shorts aircraft and am just trying to get a feel for what the company is like before I plan a trip up to MKE. Any and All help appreciated.

PS: I know there have been threads before but they all seem to have wandered off topic some how.

Hopefully you're not just planning a trip for ACC. The last pilot I know of being hired there was almost a year ago. Other than that I"m sure it operates pretty similar to AMF. No news about a place is usually good news.

YEah my idea was to go up there and just take a look around. A few buddies and my self are headed up to Osjkosh and figured we would stop and see if we could talk to some people from the op there. On their website they have the flight requirements posted and a link to an application site

I was there from 06-07. Great pilots, great training, great aircraft. Watch your back with management.

Any word on hiring at ACC? Their website seems to always look the same...

SpiraMirabilis 08-19-2010 02:11 AM

I know they've hired recently. There is a new FO on the Columbia-Myrtle beach run.

The problem with their website is that it seems to state that they are always hiring. Also I have yet to find hiring Mins for them.

Air Cargo Carriers - Careers

ACC's minimum pilot requirements are:

* 500-1,000 hrs total time (min of 750 preferred)
* 100 hrs multi-engine time
* 50 hrs instrument
* ATP written
* 1st Class Medical

Usually there is a class every 3 months of 4-8 people. Just depends on new runs and attrition.

Congrats on moving to the left seat there tricky!

VAviator 08-20-2010 03:05 PM

Thanks for the info twebb.

Do you know if they tend to stay away from people well over the mins? I know some 135 outfits are afraid you won't stay long if you have slightly higher times. I'm looking for the TPIC, but I'm already at 1650TT and 500ME. (Haven't flown professionally in over three years though.)

I'll get my application in as soon as I knock out the ATP written, but just curious. Thanks!

Thanks, they picked up a few runs out of san juan and possibly more on the way, so they upgraded a bunch of us. Ground school is pretty organized now and that's a huge plus!

I think they want people right in 1000hr range, that way if people leave or they get a bunch of runs they are close to 1200 hours and can upgrade to captain after a few months on the line. Upgrade does not normally happen after a few months, but I think they just want to prepare themselves.

cubbies4life 08-26-2010 03:11 AM

whats the schedule like?

Typical cargo schedule, duty on around 2100, fly at 2200, land at the hub at 0000....sit for a few hours, take off at 0430, land at 0630. Work Monday night to Saturday morning. If you are on the west coast you will take off to the hub earlier, and depart the hub later....to hub at 1800, leave hub at 0800.
Times vary run to run, but that's about it. 5 days a week until you quit.

Do you know if they are looking for a new hire FO for San Juan? I lived there for a few months flying a short lived cargo contract and loved it.

How about the IAH to AUS run? Think that one will be around for a while? I would work at ACC for years just to work up to that one.

Call the company, they were just looking for people typed in the shorts from san juan that can speak the language and know the area. As far as IAH, it's DHL, easy run, 2 weeks on 1 week off, goes senior...kind of....just depends on what people want.

fjetter 08-26-2010 09:31 AM

Just curious how senior is harrisburg, pa?

Senior, because it's a good time builder and DHL.

detpilot 08-27-2010 08:56 PM

Are most of the senior guys looking to move on, or are they planning to stick around a while?

SpiraMirabilis 08-29-2010 11:02 AM

Every air cargo captain I've spoken with has a strong desire to move up the food chain, so to speak. YMMV.

LucasM 08-30-2010 06:40 AM

I applied a couple weeks ago but still haven't heard a peep. I've got about 1,450 and change and about 140 multi. Don't tell me i'm overqualifed???

SD3FR8DOG 08-30-2010 06:52 AM

Hold onto your horses.... They might not be hiring right now.
