Hawaii?
Hi folks
Does anyone out there have experience w the smaller 135 operators in Hawaii? I flew with 2 different Grand Canyon tour companies years ago and thought I would never want to do that kind of work again, but now I need a job and have found my thoughts drifting to Hawaii (imagine that ) I’ve got plenty of hours and I’m not interested in "building time". Do any of the tour companies or island hopping commuters pay enough to live on? What about hauling freight between the islands?
Thanks!

Didn't Air Nevada become Pacific Wings? Air Nevada was a pay for training company in the canyon years ago, I won't do business with them.
Does Mokolele still have ties with Mesa? I flew with Mesa for 10 years, they won't do business with me LoL.
Anyways thanks for the tip

The outfit is Mokulele, last I heard, they picked up a couple of guys in the islands. Pacific Wings is a Kahalui based outfit and they are always looking to hire guys. Pay wise... define enough to live on? Most of the little outfits out there probably won't pay you enough to fund you BMW or maybe even your Ford Fiesta, lol

Hello flyn Hawyn, thanks for the response.
For me "enough to live on" means a Ford escort and a 1 BR apartment w food in the fridge. No wife or kids so the digs don’t have to be huge, but then I won’t do the crash pad thing with 50 guys either LoL.
Do you know anything about Big Island Air or the other fixed wing tour companies? What their duty structure or QOL might be like? Thanks again.

YES, PW is air nevada. Mokolele is part of GO. Mesa has 75% control of the company.
Living in Hawaii is not really like anything else in the state's. Be prepared for huge cost on just about everything. Just a simple trip to the grocery store will blow your mind. My sister-in-law just sold a house there for nearly $800,000 that would have fetched about $55-60K here in Texas.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, please keep them coming!
I was sorta hoping that the island hopping commuters might pay a bit more since Hawaii is such an expensive place to live, but apparantly the management at Island Air doesn't agree. Guess I'm not really surprised.
Looks like Aloha Cargo pays crap the first year but then gets much better after that, might send them a resume. I assume most of their flying is at night?
Kamaka looks interesting, especially since I've got some tail wheel time, but I can't find anything on the 'net about their pay scales. Anyone here know much about them? I wonder if right seat in a DC-3 pays as bad as right seat in a Dash-8?
Still haven't found much on Corporate Air or the tour companies. I'll keep looking and let y'all know what I find.
