Probably because its a job that involves flying airplanes.
Ive heard that its one of the biggest 135/corporate outfits in the Northeast. A guy I knew flew the 208 amphib for them into the South Street Seaport in Manhattan, that must be pretty cool. They fly pretty nice/new equipment. Are they comparable to Sky Limo as far as crappy work rules and management go? Talon always interested me, but maybe theres things Im just not seeing.

Hey I think I know that guy too! He used to be my CFI. I was trying my best to get hooked up there but he was always very direct with me in saying why to stay away. Even when he did help me, they didn't bother replying to me. I guess things just work themselves out for the better sometimes.
At least for him it seemed that he advanced quickly at Talon and now he's living the dream at jetblue. That guy has been my pilot to look up to for a while.

Nothing Has Changed at Talon
Here is what I know of Talon Air,
They are a midsized aircraft charter operator that operates primarily the problematic Hawker 4000 aircraft in which only about 60 were built. Talon has gone through great lengths to secure as many of these aircraft as possible primarily for parts also because they make a great deal of money fixing these aircraft. This was the aircraft that Bankrupted Beechcraft it was so bad.
They lock their pilots into 2 year 43k promissory training contracts. So that they can control the pilots disrespect them and abuse them. The pay is low for the aircraft size and type. After all is said an done it is a useless type for which you will never be able to apply your skills elsewhere. Most pilots leave after their 2 year contract but they have had many leave within the 2 years using signing bonuses from other companies to pay off the debt and just get out. Several with warning letters and violations to there certificates.
Talon for various reasons seems to have a very high turnover of 50-85% of the pilot pool annually. This causes them to take on anyone with a pulse. Many of the pilots there are bottom feeders hired over the phone without even a face to face interview. They don't even so much as perform proper background check or google of names like the infamous ALPA - Tim Martins who is a regular senior captain there.
The fleet aircraft being unique are broken all the time with 5-8 MEL's Just keep them flying keep the money rolling in.
Talon is "all smoke and mirrors" they have what appears to be a beautiful facility and clean well kept aircraft the truth is its rotten from the top down with oppressive policies, disrespectful, greedy management who fail to recognize the decades of work most pilot professional undertake to do their job. Even many of the aircraft owners move their aircraft to other operators in time. I hear that most of the aircraft on their website don't even exist or were sold years ago.
None of the employees are really happy they put on the fake smile go to work but are always looking for the next best thing. Talon even make the pilots sign a form that they will not seek other employment while at the company. I other words they own you, through promissory notes, to letters of agreement not to look for other jobs. Basically legal slavery.
Stay Far Far Away from this one... You will get burned and you will be scared. I have seen in other forums how they have ruined lives.
I am just thankful I never work there like some of my unfortunate friends.

The D.O. and C.P don't stand up for themselves or whats right. They take the path of least resistance. They know certain policies are bad but they stand behind them. It is easier to just not make waves and thats the approach they take.
Lately they have been hiring allot of Expat, Foreign and Scab pilots. Because they are having a hard time filling the pilot attrition. It also because they know that those pilots will have a hard time finding other employment and will accept lower wages.
Talon is a perfect example of a company with a rotten core. It needs a union but the ownership would rather shut it down then take care of employees.

A friend of mine worked there and oh the stories... She said that the owner, Adam Katz, is the problem. He's an absolute fecal smear. His ego is huge and he is absolutely neurotic, drowned in his own self conceit and narcissism. His management team fears him and Katz has been know to fire people because he woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. Katz owns Talon but his main business in is Manhattan running a bunch of buildings; which explains why he treats people the way he does. He's well connected with the political scene in NY; so much so that he was able to push through a permit to build a fuel farm at FRG in record time. He treats pilots exactly the way pilots who take the jobs at Talon want to be treated; like cheap *****s. You are lower than slaves when you work for Katz. He treats his hangar floors better than he treats his pilots.
If you have any respect for yourself, you'd hop on the next NASA rocket launch just to zero out any chance of you applying to this dumpster of a 135.
