Vision Airlines

What are the mins for this company? Do they still do the grand canyon tours or are they moving to regional flying? Lastly do they have some kind of website, at least for the sake of employment, or do you have to walk in?

Yes, Vision still does Grand Canyon Tours. They are a 135 Company and I havent heard any rumor of them going regional. There minimums are low, like 600TT and 50Multi, But they want you to pay them around 9,000.00 to start flying for them if you have low time like that. I suggest Scenic Airlines, they are a 121 company, currently hiring in the Twin Otter. Mins are 650tt and 50 multi with about 1 year upgrade time. There website is www.scenic.com

Vision is just a cover for the owner to smuggle drugs in from South America,
no joke.

but it is pay for training

First of all... They are not smuggling drugs... The father of the owners did serve time for either money laundering or drug charges. Seeing DHC-6 Time you are / were probably at scenic. So the rivalry is pretty obvious... the 2 companies do not like each other... They are now the only 2 turbine fixed wing operators from Vegas to the Canyon.

It is pay for training, but you get a lot of flight time real quick and you get out of there... There is no such thing as commuting or work rules. They have at least 5 D-228s (maybe more) flying and 2 D-328s. Most of thier flying is Grand Canyon stuff and river rafting drops. The do run service to Willams Gateway airport in Mesa Az.

Don't let any one give you the Career Suicide rap... its not almost everbody that was worth a damn that I started with there (3 years ago) have moved on to bigger and better things... Regionals / Coporate etc.

regionals are not "bigger better things" and corporate doesnt care wether or not you had a PFT job,

but as far as a "major" i prefer to have a nice clean honest record when it comes to my previous employment, thats why i am informing him of the PFT deal. if it worked for you then i wish you all the well.

i was joking about the drug charges but several vision pilots have said that every once in a while the same jet will come in after tower and pull directly into their hanger ENGINES RUNNING and theyll shut all the doors and gone before the morning

I worked at vision for 6 months in 2003/2004 I went from there to XJT and from XJT to CAL.

I know XJT has hired at least 5 former Vision pilots that were there when I was there not to mentio pilots that have gone to, Eagle (2), ASA, Comiar, Alaska (CA), Horizon, SWA (CA), Allegient (CA 2) not to mention a few guys who landed corporate gigs. In my interview no one asked if my job at Vision was pft. Was it a sketchy deal... probably, but my choice led to me getting further ahead then I could have dreamed of.

Vision is what is. Its an awful place to work... you wont get much time off, and you will have other duties around the office on your non-flying days. The reason for this is the fact that you will need the extra money. The plus side of this deal is that you really get to learn how to run an airline. I worked on the ramp, pumped gas, helped out in MX, and I did a lot of work in Flight control. (135 version of Dispatch, Crew Sched, and Flight Sched all rolled into one)

You leave there abused and worn out but you have a great idea on what goes on out side of a cockpit at an airline, makes you very employable at a regional or elsewhere. I was over there for six months and I would have upgrade in a month or so after I left.

but--- Hate2breakit.... I guess you work over a scenic, and I really dont have a lot of bad to say about it over there, but Vision really helped me jump start my career I have no regrets what so ever. Especially when I do my walk around on my shiny jet. (A big ole 737-800 ..3,5,7,8,9)

And oh by the way when I was there there were Corporate Jets that flew around VGT that were managed by Vision, they had a few jets they managed for various people in Vegas. I never saw anything that looked remotely questionable.

I hear that they are hiring again. Anyone know what the interview process is like? I hear about a 1 hour session.

There website shows they are. I know I just applied, but I'm sure they will have 1000's of resumes in a few minutes.

Vision was awarded commuter authority a while back and have started promoting SDF-ATL twice a day. They do a chunk of business out of Atlanta, so this was probably a natural "first step" using their authority.

They have also been doing a lot of charter work using 737s out of Gulfport/Biloxi and other gulf coast casino destinations, including regular flights in and out of Tampa & Ft. Lauderdale.

I've ground handled a few Vision flights when they had a plane based in Orlando, it would clear customs in FLL quite a bit from the Turks & Caicos and Bahamas on a regular basis. (this was the DoDo jet and prop).

Does Vision still run the Mesa, AZ flts to North Vegas?
