Stay Away From DPJ
Management has implemented a promisary note to go with the four year training contract. At recurrent you now sign both. If you don't sign, then you can work until you are no longer current. If seperate from the company then you owe more than the initial type rating cost. They go after your training, hotel cost and the perdiem you were paid! For 36k/year you can keep it. What a POS company!

Signing such a contract under duress makes it invalid. I had my lawyer significant other look into this a while back. For example if you show up for work at a new job and they put a training contract infront of you, that was not previously disclosed, you are considered under duress since you've allready quit your last one and you really have no choice but to sign. This makes the agreement null and void. I havent spoken to her about this specifically but it seems to me "sign this or loose your job" certainly seems like your signing something under duress.

I have a friend who was recently hired there, but before this new promissory note. Could someone explain exactly what has changed from before? And exactly how does this effect people who sign it and what happens to those who don't if they were to receive this at their first recurrent. Thanks.

This is the change. In addiion to the 4 page training contract there is a notarized promisary note. This note basically states that you are borrowing money from JS to complete your recurrent training. About $9,700(hotel and per diem included) for a light jet. If you leave you owe JS the money. Longevity with the company does not apply. Sign it or you have a job until you are no longer current. Your friend will get one at the next recurrent. All that and 36K a year. What a dirt bag company!

Be very careful with taking legal advice off the internet. I'm sure the laws vary based on what state the training contract and promissary note are signed in. If you need to ask, ask an attorney in the state you're signing in.
Keep in mind that there may be other issues. The cost to defend yourself may end up costing you more than the note itself. How will your new employer feel when DPJ comes asking to help collect the debt? My company has used promissary notes and reportedly has had great sucess in collecting. There's nothing like being called out of new hire ground school to take a phone call from your previous employer. With PRIA, they'll know where you are going.

9700 for light jet recurrent??? who are you kidding, sounds like JS wants to make this another profit center. Recent recurrent price for Excel (8300 for three day 135 recurrent)... Let see 3 days of hotel 400, 3 day per Diem 135, round trip airfare 0 (DPJ has positive space on Delta)..... indentured servitude priceless......
