135 work interferes with 121?
So here's a question I'm sure has been covered... Can I have a part 121 day job and do some contract 135 stuff on days off?
|
Not familiar with 121 at all. Currently fly for a 135 operation. Never heard anything against it, but 121/135 might be tough. The only thing I have ever been aware off, and this is probable company specific, that all outside commercial flying must first be approved by the chief pilot. And if affects duty/rest requirement that it should be reported so it can be entered into the companies scheduling program for their duty assignments.

If someone wants to take a chance on you, the problem is your hours from both ventures could jeopardize your legality in flying for the other.
You won't know unless you try. |
Commercial flight time is commercial flight time. So both jobs would count toward your weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual flight time limits. And that might be a problem for which ever is the primary.

Even if I don't fly very much during my 121 job? Ie sitting reserve flying 30 hours a month.
I'm not looking to go full time with both. Just 2 or 3 trips a month on days off for some extra cheese |
It's allowed at my company with CP approval. As others have said, as long as it doesn't impact the 121 side of things, nobody seems to care. Just be up front about it, and give yourself some schedule buffer to ensure that a change on the contract side of things doesn't encroach on your 121 schedule.

135 and 121
Check your 121 company's ops manual. It should say.

Not to mention a day off (1 in7) from both. |
Keep in the back of your mind that the flight and duty time regulations are a joint responsibility. The company shall not and the airman will not accept...... So both companies have to know what you have flown for the other. My airline requires full disclosure and they enter the other flying into our system. It's a major PITA. My company only allows limited flying. Airplane repos, currency flying for DO and CP types, etc.

That's way too hard to pull out and actually read your manual. It is much easier to come on a forum where you have no clue where people work and ask their opinion ;) |
