Default Quick and Question: DC-3 Type Rating

I've been having trouble slaking my curiosity on this one. I'd be pleased to hear from you if you know the answer.

I've seen that there are separate type ratings for the DC-3 and the DC-3S (the Super DC-3).

Do these separate types require separate check rides? Or is it a common training and examination process, like the BE-400/MU-300 certification?

Thanks in advance, and Happy Thanksgiving.

It's two checkrides - I have no idea why. The Super is bit lighter on the controls due to servo tabs. Systems differences takes about an hour.

If you look at the type rating AC, they are separate blocks on the page, unlike the DC-6/DC-7 or CV-240/CV-340/CV-440, which is 3 types on one ride.

I had friend who had a Super type from flying one in the Navy. Feds were going after him because he was flying a regular Three without the regular Three on his cert.

And yet the DC-9 and 717 are a common type. Incredible!

What's more incredible is that the 787 and 777 share the same type.

One's made out of aluminum, the other plastic. Different engines, completely different systems.

One of the Supers I used to fly is up in ANC. Saw one cruising past Waikiki a few weeks ago. Thee are a couple more on the FAA registry but I don't know if they're flying. I think Basler will still make you a turbo.
