Part 135 DO/CP approval
Looking at starting a Basic 135 op. Has anyone had experience getting approval as DO/CP with out meeting the 3 year of 135/121 experience requirement? I know Part 135.71f says FAA will consider other experience. Just want to see if anyone else has experience with this? Thanks

What you are really asking is, "Will the FSDO approve a deviation to 14 CFR 119.69 (or .71)?". There is a process for this. It starts with a conversation with your POI. Ultimately FAA HQ (AFS-250) will have to concur. Also, Part 135 Certification is a long path in and of itself. Check out FSIMS, FAA Order 8900.1, Volume 2 which explains the 135 certification process. There is a section on Exemptions & Deviations as well. You need to thoroughly know what you may be getting into..

Additionally, new certifications are placed at the bottom of the priority list based on the FSDO you are wanting to have the certificate and their resources.
As mentioned previously, I'd seriously go have a chat with them once you've familiarized yourself with FSIMS and some of the processes to see what the wait time would be on something like this.

Thanks
Thanks Guys
I actually discussed this at length with my local FSDO and found out the best path for us is Single PIC 135 as opposed to Basic 135. I didn't consider this option because we were planning to use a jet and We thought that only applied to pistons.

A Single PIC 135 allows you to have up to 3 SICS. Many small jet operators are setup that way.

^^^ There is a caveat to doing this. The 135 certificate can ONLY be overseen by the local ( nearest FSDO). If you "FSDO shop" for initial certification, then your 135 certificate will need to be "internally transferred" to the correct FSDO after the cert process is complete. The potential for delays on the back end are real because of the transfer process. The more "hands" that touch it, the greater the potential that something will get lost or mis-placed..
Ask your local FSDO what the "backlog" is, and get familiar with the CSOP process through your POI.
