Default Pilot shortage cancelled Cape Air flight

What's up with their staffing situation?
They got a bunch of old timers working their Caribbean lines this season.

Poor working conditions + poor pay = staffing issues.

So glad I never went there. The information I received on this forum really helped!

it's too bad. I really was considering a move for this company, but that contract is just too much. Leadership at 135 airlines need to recognize that they are a stepping stone for people, not try holding them hostage. Create a good pay scale, and an environment where people want to stay, and they will find that people will stay. Many will still go, it's still a stepping stone, but they will see more applicants. It's a balance.

I honestly can't see many fo's staying to upgrade no matter how good the pay. Not many people want to fly piston twins for a living. You'd probably go there for the lifestyle of being home everyday or if you lived in one of their bases.

Lol, a 30k surprise FO training contract! That sounds like a new low for Cape Air. I remember my FO interview with them. I commuted across the country to interview and there was no chief/assistant pilot at the interview. Just a couple of kid recruiters with no real world experience.
