Default UPS Pilot Job

Good afternoon, I have a question in regards to becoming a Pilot for United Parcel Service. What kind of background do you need to qualify for a co-pilot slot? Do you need to work your way up flying the small Feeder planes? and if such what kind of path is recommended? I am currently flying single engine recip, commercial rated with IFR. Thanks.

The same quals you need for Delta, United, SWA, FedEx, AA, etc.

How you get them is up to you.

UPS is a major. Along with FedEx it's one of the most desirable places to work for in the U.S. for many pilots.

So flight time wise you'd need something like:
ATP
3,000+ TT
1000 PIC twin turbine

If you have a 767 or a 777 type that's a huge plus.

I don't know anyone who went from a feeder operation or any 135 cargo carrier straight to UPS.

I see. So have there been guys getting hired from Ameriflight cargo for example or do you need to go get time in jets first?

You'll need at minimum to go get at least 1000 hours of turbine PIC. Most likely more than to get a look. So think 5000+ total time with lots of jet time and at least 1000 TPIC.

There are some posts somewhere that talk about how you will get to the majors faster if you get on with one of the regionals than with Ameriflight. Let me see if I can find them.

Another thing to consider is the very harsh environment that exists within the training department at Ameriflight towards new-hire pilots. There are some posts on this somewhere too.

Why do you think a 777 type would be a plus?

That was a brainfart on my part. I meant the 767/757 type.

UPS/Fedex are probably among the top 5 most coveted jobs in aviation which means they can cherry pick.
Really strong times, beaucoup jet time and internal recommendations.
