Where to find low hour jobs down south?
 

Well I am back looking for flying jobs and not having much luck since most of the seasonal jobs are in mid swing or on the way out,620 TT commercial single/multi instrument rated. close to 400 of that is from dropping divers in a 182. I dont mind dropping divers but not getting cross country time sucks as well as sitting at the DZ all day not getting paid waiting for the clouds or wind to change. Plus in Michigan all the small stuff shuts down for like 7 months of the year.

I figure if I am going to work min wage or labor jobs while waiting for a flight job to open up I might as well move someplace not freezing cold like Michigan and hopefully because of the warmer weather and longer summers there will be more low time jobs. I am thinking of TN,NC,SC,GA,FL etc as I think they would be places I would like to live.

The question is though, how do you find the low hour jobs? back when I was on climb to 350 it was all the same regional jobs or overseas ones wanting thousands of hours. I know some people in Michigan that got on with North country but I never saw them advertise and if I had not heard about through a friend I would not even know they exist.

I figure there has got to be companies like them, or other small charter/ freight companies but in other states, the thing is how do I find them? I mean showing up to every airport in a state asking would take forever in time and a lot in gas.

I tried looking for air tours/ air taxi but all I see is helicopter ones,I know people do plane tours, but I cant seem to find any. Is there a site that is more for low time/part time jobs than the expensive climb to 350?

Even just to narrow it down a bit would help, IE no jobs now but this is a hot spot for jobs, so just get a regular job for now and on the days off hit the FBO in the area and someone will have something sometime. I just dont want to pick a state and move only to find out that I am in the wrong spot and all the jobs are in airports at the other end of the state etc

Talk to USA Jet. I heard they were hiring at low hours. My buddy was slated for their Falcon 20s but since they aren't flying much he is being moved into the DC-9s

Yeah, USA Jet's Falcon mins are 500 I believe. I don't believe the pay is much for SIC and from what I've heard as well- it's not a ton of flying. But it is a job.

It's not too late to check apply for survey jobs for the season starting October. 172 or Aztec flying, not glamorous, but lots of flying and lots of XC.

We hire at 135 VFR mins. Next ground school on the 4th.

Totally opposite of the south and warm but think about Alaska. You don't have to be broke. You will make $4000 a month up there working 15on/15off and will easily get 1000 hours in less than a year with all the XC time you want. My record was 115 hours in 16 days. Plus it looks fantastic on a resume. Grant hires at 500 hours. I went to Alaska with 510 hours and loved it. They pay for your transportation and housing so all you do is work and collect the check.
Plus if you hate sitting around not getting paid. Up there you will get a daily guarantee usually at least $200/day so you get paid to hang with the guys at the pilot house and watch tv. Not everyone can cut it but definitely worth looking into.

Thanks guys, I was just hoping to find a way to maybe find some of the smaller outfits and jobs in the areas I would love to live if possible,but I guess not much for low time in those areas.
I would love something like the Alaska stuff but someplace in the warm part of the USA, even better If I could get into the carribean or some tropic island.

I did apply to 2 different pipeline patrol jobs, one in MO and one in TX but was told to come back with more hours, as well as 3 SIC positions I applied for. even though I met(just barley) the hours they required.

I did look at Alaska but from the threads here it seemed like they got their positions filled, at least at Hageland. Grant from the posts here got a bad rap with checks bouncing, but maybe they got better?

I am also looking at American Aviation as Dera mentioned as AZ sounds a bit better than freezing my ass off in AK but the Alaska schedule and money sounds good.

I re did my log book and realized I am like 5 hours short of the x country and night hour to have 135 mins, so I am going to turn my biannuals and IFR refresh flights into little cross countries to get them taken care and apply when I get my 135 mins and see if anybody takes me.

They only have captain spot on the site but couldn't hurt to apply. Fo pay is pretty low but I've heard captains make 60k and you will fly a lot.

I would avoid American Aviation in AZ

Ill jump in here in regards to Grant. Its a great place to work and the whole check bouncing thing is totally non-existent nowadays. However if you dont want cold it is the last place you should go haha
