Default How was the islands?

How was the islands? I almost went a year ago but I heard some bad things from my instructor who knew some people . Flying in IFR on vfr flight plan, being dragged into work to sit at the office all day etc. I mean what is the point of getting low pay and living on an island if you get no time to enjoy it?

Default The low pay I can take

The low pay I can take, the big thing was no time to enjoy the Island, I mean on a beautiful island and no time to enjoy it and still be broke.
The whole point of doing something like that for no money was to have an Adventure and enjoy the islands before moving to a boring flying job.

But the big thing is being pushed to fly vfr in IFR weather and being left to take the blame if it goes tits up .Flying in IFR conditions trying to find an island and small airport sounds kinda like asking for trouble.

Boy you guys would really hate Alaska then. We've got special minimums to fly VFR when its IFR.

Default Special vfr mins

Interesting, I am not familiar with how things work in Alaska. What do the special vfrs entail?

Due to sky diving I mostly flew in pretty much god vis days, though sometimes it might have been a bit close when the clouds suddenly dropped or moved in and you have to fight to fly through the holes or over a cloud etc

But in Alaska you have training and special permission right? So you don't get jumped on? From what I heard from the instructor, some guys pushed the vfr stuff in the islands and then when it got bad they were thrown under the bus. Kinda like you fly becouse we said so it you get fired, but if anything happens your going to take the fall.

You do have special minimums. We don't, so as someone else is saying, good luck if sth happens

See we can fly VFR when its 500' and 2 miles. But Javi just because we have special minimums doesn't mean we can still fly right into clouds. It lower but we still have to maintain VFR. Just a different ball game up here I guess

Forgive me for my ignorance about Alaska flying, but what is wrong with IFR? Why even fly VFR in such marginal conditions?
