Anyone wanna give me some tips on packing, things you wish you packed that you didnt? etc etc?

I packed a enough clothes for a week to week and a half. No need to bring too much, bring shirts that you can layer in cooler climates. Rolling the shirts save space. Most hotels have a laundry room. With that said a little pack of tide pods and dryer sheets would be good. I got a toiletry bag to fit all the bathroom essentials in. Anker battery pack to keep the iPad/stratus/phone charged in the plane if the plane doesn’t have an power port. For the hotel room, I got a usb/plug combo power strip for the nightstand since some hotel rooms don’t have easily accessible outlets. I fit all that in a 24” suitcase which fit perfectly in the 172SP, I put it upside down behind the passenger seat. I hung a backpack on one of the suitcase wheels and positioned my flight bag on top of the suitcase. Tight fit but it worked.

Some extra tips for being on the road, most FBOs offer water bottles. Save some empty bottles in the plane where they’re easily accessible. Some days I’d stay up in the air for 5-6 hours at a time and not having to land just for restroom breaks is ideal. Invest in a good mount for your iPad. I got the mygoflight mount/case. An anti-glare screen cover for the iPad helps too. Most importantly invest in a good noise canceling headset. If you’re flying 5-8 hours a day for a season your ears will thank you and you’ll feel less fatigued at the end of the day. A Bluetooth headset to listen to music would be good. I got nothing but good things to say about the Bose A20.

Bottom line the less stuff you pack the better. You’ll realize that when you need to repack for relocation flights to new projects. You can always have someone at home Fedex you stuff you didn’t pack. Likewise if you packed too much you can always send stuff home.

Also, water bottles are no new thing for me... towed banners and usually could hold it but thankfully the water bottles were in plane lol

Gatorade bottles work better for a number of reasons.

I brought my Xbox with me. Good for saving money on rainy days.

Learn how to cook via microwave, most hotels. Unless you stay at the extended stays do not have a cook top.

Comfortable shoes, I wore my boots for most of the season. After about 4 hours I could feel the pedals in my tennis shoes.

Bring a extra set sunglasses in your bag. Incase your current ones brake.

Gatorade bottles make sense also lol.


I was thinking about bringing my xbox... But I think my laptop would be fine, I dont wanna risk my xbox breaking either :P


Any tips on food savings tips other than breakfast from the hotel if you can get it? I know they don't pay for food so i figure i might find out how to save in that area.


What kind of boots did you have?


And i have a couple pairs of sunglasses in my bag :)
