I get it and dont mean to come off complaining. I meant more of, I need to take this opportunity and maximize what I can and do what I can do tap into aviation. Great video btw.

CFI is great....assuming you actually teach and don't waste your time staring at hobbs meter.

Another option is to CFI until you hit 500-800TT and then fly Aerial Survey, Skydive (meat missiles), Traffic Watch or take advantage of some Part 91/135 FO programs.

CFI = typically 30 day training footprint, create lesson plans, teach, fly the aircraft (about 10 hours), complete FOI written exam, take checkride with FAA, fail checkride with FAA, retest and pass.

I think American Flyers, AllATPS and Sheble Aviation have accelerated CFI courses.

I am a second career pilot.

I recommend you do what you have to do to get the single commercial as quick as possible. Uber, sell unnecessary items, take a small 401k distribution, etc. Once you have single commercial find a survey job, job in Alaska, or Puerto Rico- anywhere you can get hired with single commercial to build time. Next, try for a turbine single job- Caravan or PC-12 gig. Save some more money, once you hit a 1,000 hours, then get a multi commercial ticket and start looking for a king air/light Jet FO job.

PM me if you have specific questions. Happy to help walk you through it.

Can't you freelance with your skills in IT? I get it that it isnt what you want, but to pay the bills, you should be able to work part time after-hours enough to pay the bills with a 1099 contract. That way you can work on flying during the day.

BTW, with a talented CPA they can probably expense a lot of that 1099 employment income so your tax liability can be minimized.

Don’t take anything out of your 401k that’s stealing from yourself as you pay a fine and taxes on top of it.
Ask me how I know, I lost appr 30%.

I'm working on my CPL, about 90% complete, I have my IFR as well. To our more salt into the wound, I just lost my job (2/11/2019) as a software developer and I really don't want to go back into the IT world. Ever. I've always wanted to be a pilot in some realm and want to make this time count.

Any tips, advice, or anything would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Flight Safety Academy in Vero Beach - I just saw flyers they will give you all your CFI, CFII, MEI and a jet type but it says 2-yr. commitment. And I did hear someone say it was hard finding time since they are so short on instructors, thus the need. So...caveat emptor - but could be a great deal depending on your circumstance, and a job with them.

2 years is reasonable as it will take you that much time to get up to 1500hrs anyway.
And there’ll keep you busy too.
