Its now a 1200 hour dual given contract. For some that may work out to two years, but they way things are there right now that is not the case.

When you have

500 hours of total flight time.
200 hours of flight instruction experience.
200 hours of instrument experience.

UAL has a program with Lufthansa Training in Phoenix AZ that pays you and "facilitates" you getting hired at UAL.

CFI to UAL CPP

Also, when you get 500TT I think Ameriflight will hire you as a First Officer. If you can get the 500TT, this route would save you the trouble of getting a CFI.

I've been trying to work toward the 500 TT mark. It seems to be the next stepping stone for low-time jobs. I'd need, roughly, 200 more hours. The local flying club I am part of I can get a 172 for $80/hr wet. That comes out to $16k just to "buy" the hours. I would think it'd be more beneficial to get the CFI rating if I were to invest so much money. I use to work for UPS and found out about Ameriflights pathway/intern program. However, after talking with the flight operations representative, they tend to hire CFI candidates into the program. Thank you for the suggestion!

Man I can totally relate. I’m a wet commercial with only 350TT. I am strongly considering CFI initial to get to 1500. My situation is tricky as I have a family and making a career change. Im staying put until next January. In the meantime looking at CFI at a few places. Ideally free would be great for a time commitment.
Falcon Aviation, Crystal Aero, Venture North, and possibly a local place. An old buddy of mine got his CFI for like 2K. It took him 4-5 months, at the local FBO, and now he is employed and on his way to the 1500.

Ameriflight would be awesome if they would take low time, 350TT and not 350PIC for what I read in another forum.

- not sure if you're aware of Silver Airways in FL but they will foot $10k for you to get your CFI ratings. See the link below. I'm not sure about the commitments that come with this but it might be worth considering.

Also, where are you in WI? I'm in northern IL (3CK), let me know if you're looking to split time.

I sent a request a few days back for Silver and have not heard anything. I believe the Mesa program is similar but offers a bit more (benefits/flow). I'm located in Oshkosh, WI. Always willing to split time!!

I did 800 hrs last year. Getting close to ATP mins. CFI is a great avenue to the flight levels.

Even part time CFI will help. I have a full time job that pays the bills, work part time as an instructor, mostly paid, but some volunteer, (flying with Civil Air Patrol). Before getting my CFI I would try to average 50 hrs per year. Last month I did 49.5hrs. Even if I'm not getting paid, still beats having to pay for the plane myself.

How much of that is CFI flight time vs CAP vs paying for yourself? I’m trying to do the same type of thing with a current full time job.

If you find a school in a good weather area, expect to get your ATP mins in around, or less than a year. A regional recruiter told me that Part 141 CFI is the second most valuable time you can have behind previous 121 experience.
